Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Assistant for a home breeding and retired show dog kennel .
The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a strong commitment to providing a clean house and kennel area. As a kennel assistant here you will be providing care to working dogs, breeding dogs, helping raise puppies occasionally.
Responsibilities in the setting
- Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, bathing, basic grooming, and exercising.
- Maintain cleanliness of kennels, play areas, and common spaces inside and outside the property to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns.
- Support dog training sessions as required, ensuring positive reinforcement techniques are utilized.
- Assist in heavy lifting tasks.
- Ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Administer medication to animals as needed
- Working outside in elements to keep yards clean daily
Key Responsibilities in the Pet /home Kennel
- Training & Interaction: Regularly Groom and interact with large working dogs to ensure their well-being and development.
-Grooming: Perform grooming and bathing of dogs, a significant part of this role. Previous grooming experience desired.
-Sanitation & Cleaning: Maintain sanitary conditions in all areas, including the crates, building, yards, and living spaces for the dogs. attention to detail and a strong desire to clean, do laundry, and assist as needed is crucial. Household cleaning duties as dogs live free in house as well.
-Exercise & Play: Walk, play, and engage with the dogs daily to promote their physical and mental health.
-Medication Administration: Occasionally administer medications as directed.
-Breeding Assistance: Assist in the breeding process and care for litters when necessary. Previous experience whelping dog litters desired.
-Dog sitting: Essential to Provide dog sitting services when owners away or breaks for care of litters needed. This will include overnight stays, often on weekends. Schedules will be known in advance and there are set rates for these pet sitting assignments.
Experience
- Previous experience as a Groomer or familiarity with dog grooming techniques preferred
- Experience working in a boarding kennel or animal breeding setting is advantageous.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physical tasks associated with animal care, house keeping tasks and maintenance of property is required.
- A genuine love for animals and commitment to their welfare is essential.
- Reliability to not miss assigned shifts and have dependable transportation is essential.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs or more with assistance and work outside in the elements as needed.
- Ability to organize things logically and keep everywhere as clean and tidy as possible.
- Experience as a Professional Cleaner/housekeeper would be beneficial.
- Follow Directions and be able to work independently and efficiently
- Be able to be trained to work shifts as a veterinary assistant as needed and all tasks that job requires. Will be explained further in detail at interview.
