PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Perform a wide range of complex assignments in the operation of various print shop equipment and computer/graphic arts software under the direct supervision of the Print Shop Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification
High School diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills
Working knowledge of office duplicating processes and machines including high-speed digital copiers, computers, and related peripherals and finishing equipment
Knowledge of practices, procedures, techniques and equipment used in duplicating and high speed photocopying
Must be efficient, effective competent, capable, practical and proficient in performance of duties and responsibilities
Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritize
Basic math skills
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Suite
Attention to fine details
Ability to meet deadlines
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals including high-speed digital copiers, computers, and related peripherals and finishing equipment
Posture: Prolonged sitting and/or standing, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including prolonged keyboarding & use of mouse; occasional reaching

Minimum Experience
Experience as a printer in a commercial or in-plant shop- preferred
.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Operate a variety of reprographic and finishing equipment including but not limited to high-speed digital copiers, booklet makers, cutters, binders, folders, drills, padding machines, shrink wrappers, printers, scanners, computers and assigned software.
- Work with Print Shop Manager to receive, schedule and assist in prioritizing printing and duplication requests and orders.
- Prepare copiers for extended production runs and monitor equipment during the duplication process.
- Review work submitted for reproduction; proofread work to assure completeness, quality and clarity of original copy.
- Provide general graphic art services; arrange and lay out graphic features and copy; select type style and size, fonts, spacing of letters and text lines, placement, and size and type of photos and art work to be used according to project needs, requests and specifications.
- Assist District staff with the planning, development and lay-out of printing projects.
- Assist Print Shop Manager in estimating time and material requirements for printing projects; assist staff with developing project specifications; calculate fees; assist in assuring smooth and timely completion of projects.
- Review completed jobs and monitor works in progress to assure proper application of paper weights and sizes, digital printing processes, inks and related specifications.
- Cut, collate, staple, pad, drill, hole punch, fold, assemble and bind reproduced materials as needed.
- Assist in maintaining and updating a library of files of documents and images for digital printing and reproduction.
- Maintain equipment in proper working condition; clear paper jams; replace parts and toner and adjust equipment in response to minor malfunctions. Report any unsafe equipment or needed repairs to the Print Shop Manager.
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date records including job tickets, copies of tasks, volume of each department, etc. to all for accurate billing.
- Help in monitoring inventory levels of printing supplies and report to Print Shop Manager when supplies are low.
- Prepare and maintain various records and reports related to projects, materials and assigned activities.
- Receive deliveries from UPS, FedEx, etc. Insure packages are logged and ready for distribution.
- Communicate with District Warehouse for delivery of projects.
- Insure copyright laws are followed.
- Maintain assigned areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
