Diesel Mechanic
WHAT YOU’LL DO
This role is responsible for full life-cycle maintenance and care of up-to medium-duty gas and diesel vehicles. This includes design and upfitting when trucks are introduced to our AAA Washington fleet, preventative maintenance and servicing, diagnostics, collision repairs, and parts and records management.
All mechanic tools provided! AAA Washington provides all Fleet Mechanics with the necessary tools to work in this role - no need to provide your own.

We have an immediate opening for a mechanic to service and retrofit our line of tow trucks. Offering a flexible schedule with the ability to work five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently assesses need for, inspects, and performs maintenance and repairs on all areas, including under parts, of up-to medium-duty gas and diesel vehicles.
Independently diagnoses mechanical and other malfunctions of diesel vehicles and performs vehicle repairs including engine, hydraulics, transmissions, and electric systems.
Designs and executes upfitting to meet desired end state, including metal design, fabrication, electrical wiring, cameras, toolboxes, lights, wrap, etc. to a vehicle.
Maintains records of vehicle maintenance and repairs on appropriate forms and into fleet software programs. This includes assigning of time spent on maintenance per vehicle.
Performs safety inspections of equipment and prepares required safety documentation. Oversees disposal of hazardous materials.
Responsible for parts inventory, including ordering, tracking, and stocking.
Interacts with drivers to prepare and close out work orders.
Moves parts to and from the job site and removes or installs the parts on vehicles.
Complies with all applicable industry laws and regulations.
Independently identifies maintenance and vehicle operational concerns and communicates solutions to fleet management.
Performs DOT Inspection Certifications.
Contributes to a positive team dynamic through respectful interactions, positive contributions, and active collaboration to achieve department and organizational goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED
5 years’ experience performing automotive mechanical repairs and diagnostics with medium-duty diesel trucks, including hydraulics and electrical systems
Must be able to pass and maintain DOT physical requirements test
Previous experience designing and fabricating/welding custom builds
Previous experience with hydraulic and electric work on a fleet of heavy-duty vehicles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Commercial Drivers’ License Class-A
Previous experience repairing forklifts
Previous maintenance experience on a fleet of both gas and diesel vehicles
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver license
Technical or trade school certification preferred
ASE certification in multiple automobile and medium/heavy truck disciplines or obtain within 6 months
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Skilled in diagnosing mechanical and other malfunctions and perform diesel vehicle repairs including hydraulic and electric systems. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Competent in MS Office and navigating the internet.
Ability to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.
Skilled at working independently; able to prioritize and complete assignments with minimal direction.
Skilled in handling urgent situations professionally and willing to take extra measures when solving problems.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with strong customer service skills.
Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment.

SALARY RANGE:
Hourly salary range is $32.21 to $45.10 and offer rate is based on experience.
Opportunity for annual company discretionary bonus based on company performance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is deemed to be a safety-sensitive position.
The physical environment is typical of a standard mechanic shop space. It requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. May work around moving objects or vehicles and will need to be aware of surroundings for personal safety.
