Route and Operations Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Site Manager / Division Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt - Hourly

Job Summary

The Route and Operations Supervisor is a single, combined leadership role responsible for the daily coordination, logistics, routing, and physical operations across three remote sites. This position ensures maximum operational efficiency, profitability, and compliance with commercial vehicle standards while maintaining a clean, safe, and productive yard.

This professional oversees route analysis, safety compliance, vehicle maintenance, and yard personnel, serving as a first-line leader who actively coordinates between drivers, yard staff, sales, and administration to deliver superior customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Routing, Dispatching & Analysis

  • Analyze local service requirements, schedule and manage daily driver routes, and optimize all service, delivery, and pickup functions.
  • Routinely analyze completed routes to verify work completion, identify inefficiencies, and implement routing changes to maximize branch productivity and profitability.
  • Actively manage employee schedules, tracking breaks and meal periods to ensure strict compliance with California labor laws and company regulations.
  • Utilize GPS fleet tracking and telematics software (such as Verizon Connect Reveal) daily to monitor route execution, driver safety, and dispatch optimization.
  • Identify and proactively resolve logical bottlenecks for septic, yard deliveries, and route drivers.
  • Oversee Route Packet Accountability: Count and audit service units from driver manifests, verify driver counts, supply counts, total stops, and complete Route Analysis Spreadsheets.
  • Prepare daily delivery and route schedules, making accurate driver and vehicle assignments.
  • Review and approve driver delivery paperwork, ensuring billing status is correct.
  • Conduct periodic route ride-alongs and spot checks with drivers to audit performance, service quality, and safety.

Yard & Operations Oversight

  • Supervise yard personnel and coordinate daily yard labor tasks and schedules.
  • Develop and complete load plans, actively coordinating with sales and administrative staff to ensure seamless customer service, timely dispatching, and billing accuracy.
  • Oversee the securing of loads, prepping of service units, and the accurate return of equipment to inventory.
  • Coordinate vehicle and asset maintenance, overseeing routine upkeep and repair work for septic trucks, delivery trucks, trailers, and yard equipment.
  • Perform regular checks of telematics, GPS reports, and captured video footage to audit safety compliance and driver behavior.
  • Maintain active property inventory, monitor vehicle mileages, and submit monthly operational reports.
  • Enforce strict yard and vehicle safety, ensuring total compliance with OSHA and company safety directives.
  • Assist in training new hires on proper procedures for waste removal, septic pumping, securing loads, prepping units, returning units; and the installation/tear-down of temporary fencing.
  • First Line Leader: Act immediately in the event of an operational incident or vehicle accident, handling documentation and reporting on the same business day.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as added or assigned by management.

Position Requirements (Preferred)

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Route Clerk, Dispatcher, or in a similar role dispatching trucks on local routes.
  • Labor Law Compliance: Solid understanding of California’s break and meal period laws.
  • Leadership (Small Teams): Proven leadership experience guiding, training, and managing small teams of under 10 personnel.
  • DOT Regulations: Strong understanding of DOT rules regarding commercial driver safety, periodic screenings, hours of service (HOS), and driver breaks.
  • Pre-Employment Screening: Must be able to pass a post-offer drug screen and a comprehensive motor vehicle record (MVR) background check.

Skills & Abilities

  • Software & Systems:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel for routing spreadsheets/data updates, and Outlook for professional email communication and scheduling), with the ability to use Access for data review and lookup.
  • Experienced with Verizon Connect Reveal (or similar GPS fleet tracking and telematics software) for real-time dispatch optimization, performance reporting, and driver safety monitoring.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to learn industry-specific routing software, read maps, and monitor commercial vehicle telematics and video monitoring software.
  • Physical Demands: Must be physically able to work in various outdoor weather conditions, stoop, crawl, bend, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and work around cleaning products and waste equipment safely.
  • Communication:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear professional correspondence, operational reports, and documentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) are a major plus.

Education & Licensing

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Possession of a commercial Class A driver’s license is highly preferred and considered a major plus.

Pay: $24.50 - $26.90 per hour
