What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Estimator position at AA Asphalting, LLC?
With over 45 years of experience, AA Asphalting has become the Pacific Northwest's leading asphalt and concrete restoration provider with several operating locations serving our local communities in Washington and Oregon. Our team provides quality workmanship and outstanding service to our customers who are represented by public utilities, government agencies, general contractors, and businesses.
We are looking for a motivated, organized, dynamic individual to join our team as a Construction Estimator. The Construction Estimator will continue to grow our business and increase our sales volume. Our ideal candidate is experienced in asphalt and/or concrete paving and patching with estimating experience in the industry.
Our Construction Estimator will be expected to:
- Generate new revenue by securing new contracted work and retaining current customers.
- Travel throughout the Puget Sound to attend pre-bid conferences, meet with customers on site, assess project scope and requirements, obtain field measurements, and site visits.
- Analyze plans and sites to identify and report details including construction access, staging areas, restricted areas, and potential concerns.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other resources.
- Create formal proposals for bid submissions to customers.
- Follow up on outstanding bid submissions and secure new customers.
- Coordinate with Operations team providing detailed project requirements, ensure a smooth project handoff, and communicate throughout the duration of the project.
- Oversee customer projects to ensure deadlines and cost targets are met.
- Review current material and equipment pricing to ensure bid validity.
- Communicate necessary project adjustments to customers for approval prior to project completion.
- Build and maintain strong relationships, providing excellent customer service, with customers and subcontractors to foster a successful project environment.
- Demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors.
- Submit accurate and completed documentation to the Finance department at project completion.
The ideal experienced Construction Estimator will have the following:
- 5 years of experience in cost estimating in asphalt and/or concrete industry preferred
- A Bachelor's degree in construction management (or related discipline) preferred
- Proven track record of acquiring new business and retaining current business
- Exceptional communication skills and customer focus approach
- Organized individual with strong project management skills committed to performing duties with detail and accuracy
- Have a thorough understanding of how to accurately read construction blueprints/specifications
- Proven ability to consistently meet or exceed deadline expectations
- Thorough understanding of MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook)
- Knowledge and ability to regularly update Company CRM and project management systems to reflect interactions and job progress with new and existing customers
