Sustainment Technician 1 - Entry-Level Residential & Commercial Solar O&M
Job Summary
The Sustainment Technician 1 is a field-based, hands-on role responsible for supporting the maintenance, inspection, and basic service of residential and commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This entry-level position works under the guidance of experienced technicians and Service Manager to ensure system performance, safety, and reliability.
This role is ideal for individuals with prior solar experience who are looking to grow their technical skills and build a long-term career in the renewable energy industry. Structured training, mentorship, and a clear advancement path are provided.
Work schedules may vary based on service demand, travel requirements, weather conditions, and project needs. Overtime may be required and is compensated in accordance with applicable laws. Operation of a company vehicle may be required – must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial solar PV systems
- Support routine O&M inspections on roof-mounted, ground-mounted, and carport systems
- Identify and report system performance issues to senior technicians and Service Manager
- Safely access and work on roofs and elevated structures following all safety protocols
- Travel to customer sites regionally (including Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Nebraska)
- Provide professional and courteous communication during customer interactions
- Complete service documentation, job notes, and updates using company systems
- Support senior technicians in diagnosing and resolving system issues
- Participate in ongoing safety, technical, and manufacturer training
- Assist with maintaining tools, equipment, and service materials
- Follow all company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical or trade training in electrical, construction, or related field is a plus
Experience
- Prior solar experience required- Exposure to solar, electrical, roofing, or construction environments
- Familiarity with residential and commercial job sites, including tall roofs and steep roof pitches
- Basic understanding of construction, electrical systems, or hand tools preferred
- OSHA 10 certification preferred (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)
- Ability and willingness to travel regionally
- Familiarity with basic electrical concepts and tools
- Experience with SolarEdge, Enphase, Tesla, CPS, Fronius, SMA, and similar equipment manufacturers
- Valid driver’s license with clean MVR
