Position Summary


The High School Principal is the chief administrator of the high school and is responsible for providing instructional leadership and effective management of the school's daily operations. The Principal ensures a safe, supportive, and academically challenging learning environment that promotes high levels of achievement for all students. This role requires an experienced, visionary, and dedicated leader committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and equity.

Key Responsibilities and Duties


I. Instructional Leadership

  • Curriculum and Instruction: Lead the implementation, evaluation, and refinement of the school's curriculum and instructional programs to align with state standards and best practices. Promote the use of data-driven decision-making to inform teaching and learning strategies.
  • Teacher Development: Observe, evaluate, and mentor faculty and staff. Design and implement targeted professional development programs that enhance instructional effectiveness and promote a growth mindset among educators.
  • Student Achievement: Monitor student progress and academic outcomes, developing targeted interventions and programs to address achievement gaps and ensure post-secondary readiness (e.g., college, career, military).

II. School Culture and Climate

  • Vision and Mission: Articulate a compelling vision for the school that inspires students, staff, and the community. Foster a positive, equitable, and inclusive school culture built on mutual respect and high expectations.
  • Discipline and Safety: Establish and enforce clear, fair, and consistent policies for student conduct. Ensure a safe, secure, and well-maintained physical environment.
  • Student Support: Oversee student support services, including counseling, special education, and extracurricular activities, to address the holistic needs of all students.

III. Management and Operations

  • Staff Management: Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate all school personnel. Manage staffing assignments and promote a collaborative working environment.
  • Fiscal Management: Develop, manage, and monitor the school budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support instructional goals.
  • Compliance: Ensure the school operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and school board policies.

IV. Community and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communication: Maintain open, transparent, and frequent communication with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Partnerships: Build strong partnerships with parents, local businesses, community organizations, and institutions of higher education to enhance student opportunities and school resources.
  • Advocacy: Act as the primary advocate for the school's needs and achievements within the district and the broader community.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in Building Leadership or related field with a building leadership endorsement.
  • Certification: Valid state principal/administrator certification or licensure.
  • Experience: Experience at the high school level in teaching or administration preferred.
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead complex organizations, manage personnel, and articulate a clear vision for school improvement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
