What are the responsibilities and job description for the On-Site Network Administrator (Hardware Focus) position at A2 Business Consulting LLC?
Location: Atlanta, Georgia (100% On-Site)
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $4,000 – $8,000 per month
Security Clearance: Confidential (Preferred)
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Network Administrator with a strong hardware background to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia. You will own the physical side of our IT infrastructure. That means designing, installing, cabling, and maintaining network equipment, servers, and end-user devices, and keeping everything secure, reliable, and well documented.
This is a fully on-site role for someone who likes working with equipment directly: racking and stacking gear, terminating cable, swapping failed components, and bringing new sites and closets online. You will also support our Microsoft 365 environment and work closely with users and leadership to keep the business running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Network Hardware Installation & Maintenance
- Install, configure, and maintain enterprise network hardware, including routers, Layer 2/Layer 3 switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, and access points.
- Rack, stack, and cable equipment in server rooms, MDF/IDF closets, and data centers following industry standards and clean cable management practices.
- Install, terminate, test, and certify Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A copper and fiber optic cabling. Label and document every run.
- Perform wireless site surveys and position access points for the best coverage and performance.
- Maintain power and environmental infrastructure, including UPS systems, PDUs, cooling, and environmental monitoring sensors.
- Replace and upgrade failed or end-of-life components such as power supplies, line cards, SFP/transceiver modules, fans, and hard drives.
Network Configuration & Security
- Configure VLANs, trunking, routing, QoS, port security, and spanning tree on switches and routers.
- Manage firewall rules, NAT, site-to-site and remote-access VPNs, and network segmentation.
- Monitor network health, uptime, and bandwidth with monitoring tools. Respond to alerts before they affect users.
- Apply firmware updates and security patches to network devices on a regular maintenance schedule.
- Back up device configurations and keep them under version control.
Server & End-User Hardware
- Install, configure, and maintain physical server hardware, including RAID configuration, storage arrays (SAN/NAS), and out-of-band management (iDRAC, iLO).
- Image, deploy, repair, and retire desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and peripherals throughout their lifecycle.
- Diagnose hardware failures down to the component level. Coordinate warranty repairs and RMAs with vendors such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Cisco.
- Set up and support conference room technology, including Microsoft Teams Rooms, displays, cameras, and audio systems.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of hardware assets, spare parts, serial numbers, and warranty and support contracts.
Microsoft 365 & Systems Support
- Support the Microsoft 365 environment, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business.
- Provision users, assign licenses, and manage permissions in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), including MFA enrollment.
- Troubleshoot Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) on desktop, web, and mobile.
- Enroll and manage devices with Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot.
- Support Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, and DNS in the on-premises Windows Server environment.
Documentation & Projects
- Create and maintain network diagrams, rack elevations, cable maps, IP address plans, and configuration documentation.
- Plan and carry out hardware refresh cycles, office build-outs, relocations, and network expansions.
- Work with ISPs, low-voltage contractors, and equipment vendors on installations and service issues.
- Take part in after-hours maintenance windows and respond on-site to urgent outages when needed.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of hands-on experience in network administration with a strong focus on hardware installation and support.
- Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting enterprise network equipment from Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Meraki, Aruba, or similar vendors.
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing protocols, and wireless networking standards (802.11ac/ax).
- Hands-on experience with structured cabling, including copper and fiber termination, testing, and certification.
- Experience with server hardware, RAID, and storage systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration and Windows Server (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS).
- Experience with firewall configuration, VPNs, and network security best practices.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently and prioritize in a fast-paced on-site environment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, including explaining technical issues to non-technical staff.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in ceilings and confined spaces, and stand for extended periods while installing equipment.
- Must be able to work on-site daily in Atlanta, GA, with occasional travel to local sites and after-hours availability.
