Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses and paratransit vehicles according to traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers, especially children, by practicing proper behavior management and child care techniques.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to verify mechanical condition, cleanliness, and safety equipment functionality.
- Maintain clear communication with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers to coordinate pick-up and drop-off schedules efficiently.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety procedures during routes, including managing behavior issues with patience and professionalism.
- Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle when necessary, providing support for those with special needs or disabilities.
- Complete accurate logs of routes, incidents, and vehicle maintenance reports as required by regulations.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving with a valid driver’s license suitable for operating large vehicles.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse communities.
- Knowledge of driving safety protocols, mechanical vehicle maintenance basics, and behavior management strategies.
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings is highly desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills to foster positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently while maintaining focus on passenger safety.
- Familiarity with paratransit services or senior care transportation is an advantage for serving diverse passenger needs.
