A to Z Rental is a locally owned tool and equipment rental company serving contractors and serious do-it-yourself customers across Connecticut. From skid steers and mini track loaders to aerial lifts, compaction and concrete tools, we help our customers get jobs done safely, on time and on budget.

We are hiring an Inside Counter Sales Representative for our North Haven branch who wants to own customer relationships, not just take orders.

The role

As an Inside Counter Sales Representative you are a key contact for customers at the North Haven branch. You will:

• Serve at the sales counter for walk-in showroom traffic, incoming phone calls and online inquiries
• Help customers choose the right equipment for their job and explain basic operation and safety
• Use a consultative inside sales approach to build repeat business and drive rentals, not just process transactions

It is a hands-on role where you work directly with customers, the yard and drivers to keep rentals moving and the branch running smoothly.

What you will do

• Greet every customer in a professional, welcoming way and build ongoing relationships with local contractors
• Ask good questions to understand job needs and recommend the best equipment and accessories
• Prepare and process rental quotes, reservations and contracts accurately
• Proactively follow up on open quotes, website leads and call-in inquiries to close rentals
• Make regular outbound calls to existing and lapsed customers to uncover upcoming jobs and win new rentals
• Work within pricing guidelines and communicate value, not just rates
• Keep the showroom and counter area clean, organized and well stocked
• Help with loading and unloading smaller tools and light equipment when needed
• Use our rental software to document activity and keep records accurate and up to date

What you bring

Our ideal candidate already works at an equipment rental counter and wants to lean further into inside sales. We are also open to strong candidates from similar rental and sales roles.

Required:

• Experience in one or more of the following:
• Equipment or tool rental counter (strongly preferred)
• Car or truck rental
• Auto parts counter or service desk
• Construction, contractor supply or building materials sales
• Inside sales role with a focus on phone and in-person customer contact
• Strong customer service skills and genuine comfort talking on the phone throughout the day
• Ability to juggle multiple customers, calls and tasks in a fast paced environment
• Basic computer skills and comfort learning rental software
• Reliable transportation and a record of strong attendance
• Ability to lift 50 pounds on occasion and work in a mix of indoor and outdoor conditions

Preferred:

• Direct equipment rental experience in a tool or equipment yard
• Bilingual English and Spanish, given our customer base in the North Haven area
• Familiarity with common contractor tools and construction equipment

If you have worked at an equipment rental desk, a construction or contractor supply counter, an auto parts counter, a car or truck rental location or in a similar inside sales role and you enjoy learning about equipment, you will feel at home here.

Schedule

• Day shift within our Monday through Saturday business hours
• One regular weekday off plus Sundays off
• Typical shift length is about 9 hours, with occasional longer days in the busy season

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
