What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activity Director position at A to Z Care Adult Day Center?
OVERVIEW
The primary responsibility of the position of Activity Director is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Activities Department following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern Adult Day Centers. You are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, maintain, evaluate, implement and direct the program activities, goals, procedures and objectives
- Prepares monthly activity calendar
- Participate in planning related to the interests and needs of the clients at the center programs (including individual interventions)
- Direct and supervise program aides
- Document the activity program and clients' progress. Maintain all records
- Develop and review care plans with interdisciplinary team to identify needs and any changes in client (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) health.
- Involve clients and their family members in planning activities
- Maintain an excellent working relationship with all staff members.
- Participate in trainings that will provide opportunities for growth related to Activities Department.
- Encourage clients to participate in activities of interest. Provide all materials and directions as needed.
- Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interactions with clients, families, staff members, volunteers and visitors.
- Maintain and support a culture of compliance, ethics and integrity.
- Maintain a safe work environment and exhibit safe work practices.
- Act as an interim Center Director in the absence of the Center Director and/or the owner
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of special needs and limitations and strengths of individuals living with a variety of diagnosis; methods and techniques used to include clients and engage them in activities; alert to attitudes and feelings of clients; knowledge of/familiarity with, or willingness to learn; handcrafts, skills, social groups, sensory activities, games, and other activities.
Ability to be professional in all forms of communication with staff, clients, vendors, volunteers, family members, and the external community.
Ability to speak and lead large groups of individuals in the internal and external communities.
Education/Experience:
- Minimum Education Requirement: Associates degree in Gerontology, Psychology, Sociology, or related field and 2 years of experience in the human services field working with elderly and adults with disabilities or Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience in the human services field working with elderly and adults with disabilities
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal/written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work 40 hours per week
- Ability to supervise, guide and coordinate employees and clients
- Ability to plan, document, implement and lead the day center programs
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and lift 50 lbs
- Pass physical exam and background check
