Lube Technician / Bus Cleaner

A To B Motor Coach – Rupert, Idaho

A To B Motor Coach is looking for a dependable, hardworking, and mechanically minded Lube Technician / Bus Cleaner to join our team.

This is a hands-on entry-level position with a career path into diesel mechanics. You will be responsible for keeping our motorcoaches clean and properly maintained while working alongside our experienced diesel technicians.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands, wants to learn the diesel trade, and is looking for an opportunity to start a career in the transportation and diesel industry.

You do not need to be an experienced diesel mechanic to apply. We are willing to train the right person.

What You'll Do

Lube & Preventative Maintenance

  • Perform basic lubrication and grease services on motorcoaches
  • Assist with preventative maintenance services
  • Check and top off vehicle fluids
  • Check engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and other fluid levels
  • Check tire pressures and visually inspect tires
  • Perform basic inspections and identify potential maintenance issues
  • Assist technicians with scheduled maintenance
  • Learn and follow company preventative maintenance procedures
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records when required

Bus Cleaning & Preparation

  • Wash and clean motorcoaches inside and outside
  • Vacuum and mop passenger areas
  • Clean seats, windows, floors, restrooms, and driver areas
  • Remove garbage and debris
  • Keep buses clean and presentable for customers
  • Restock bus supplies
  • Report damage or maintenance concerns discovered while cleaning

Shop Assistance

  • Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe
  • Empty garbage and maintain shop work areas
  • Make parts and supply runs
  • Organize parts, tools, and equipment
  • Assist diesel technicians with repairs and maintenance
  • Help move parts, tires, equipment, and materials
  • Retrieve tools and parts for technicians
  • Assist with basic mechanical tasks as your skills develop
  • Clean work areas after repairs are completed
  • Perform other shop duties as needed

Diesel Technician Career Path

This is more than a cleaning job.

Our goal is to develop the right person into a skilled diesel technician.

As you demonstrate reliability, learn our equipment, and develop your mechanical skills, you will have opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and learn more advanced maintenance and repair procedures.

You will have the opportunity to learn directly from experienced technicians, including:

  • Preventative maintenance
  • Lubrication and service procedures
  • Brake systems
  • Suspension systems
  • Steering systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Cooling systems
  • Air systems
  • Diesel engine fundamentals
  • Diagnostic procedures
  • Proper use of shop tools and equipment
  • Safe repair practices

The goal is for a successful employee to progress from Lube Technician → Junior Diesel Technician → Diesel Technician.

Advancement will be based on performance, reliability, mechanical ability, training, and demonstrated skills.

Previous automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, fleet, or mechanical experience is a plus, but is not required.

Someone with little or no professional mechanical experience who has a strong interest in becoming a diesel technician is encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and climb bus stairs
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors
  • Comfortable working around diesel vehicles, grease, oil, tools, and shop equipment
  • Ability to work safely around large commercial vehicles

Schedule

Full-Time

Our fleet operates year-round, and the workload can vary depending on our charter schedule.

Some days will involve more bus cleaning and preventative maintenance, while other days may involve assisting our technicians in the shop.

Pay

Starting pay: $11-$18 per hour, depending on experience and mechanical knowledge.
