Job Overview

A&R Auto Repairs is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Diagnostic Mechanic to join our growing team. In this key role, you will be responsible for identifying complex mechanical, electrical, and performance issues using advanced diagnostic tools and repair techniques. Your expertise will help ensure each vehicle is accurately diagnosed, repaired correctly, and returned to the customer safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full diagnostic inspections on all vehicle makes and models, including engine, transmission, electrical, and drivability systems.
  • Use advanced tools such as OBD scanners, multimeters, smoke machines, and manufacturer-specific diagnostic equipment.
  • Identify root causes of problems and create accurate repair recommendations.
  • Repair mechanical and electrical faults including engine issues, wiring problems, sensor failures, and performance concerns.
  • Conduct test drives before and after repairs to verify proper function.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of diagnostic findings, repair steps, and parts used.
  • Communicate clearly with service advisors and team members about vehicle conditions and recommended repairs.
  • Ensure all work is performed following industry standards and safety procedures.
  • Keep equipment calibrated, clean, and in good working condition.
  • Assist with other shop tasks such as basic maintenance, inspections, and customer vehicle check-ins when needed.
  • Stay up to date with new automotive technology, diagnostic techniques, and repair methods.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Diagnostic Technician or Automotive Mechanic in a professional workshop.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle systems including electrical, engine performance, fuel systems, suspension, and drivability diagnostics.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and manufacturer service information.
  • Skilled in using diagnostic scanners and electrical testing tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to perform hands-on repairs after diagnosing issues.
  • Familiarity with common maintenance procedures such as brakes, tune-ups, oil changes, and suspension work.
  • Strong communication skills for working with the team and documenting findings.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple vehicles throughout the day.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
