Experienced Life Skills/Cooking Tutor

Job Summary
A Plus Tutoring and Learning Center is an agency that provides services to adults with developmental disabilities. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Experienced Life Skills/Cooking Tutor to empower individuals with diverse needs to develop essential life skills through engaging and supportive instruction. In this role, you will design and deliver personalized lessons focused on cooking, daily living activities, and social skills, fostering independence and confidence. Your enthusiasm and expertise will inspire learners to achieve their goals while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment. Responsibilities

• Develop tailored lesson plans that incorporate life skills development, cooking techniques, and social interaction strategies
• Provide direct support during activities such as meal preparation, grocery shopping, cleaning, and other daily living tasks
• Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), promoting independence and self-care routines
• Use effective behavior management techniques to foster positive learning experiences and address behavioral challenges
• Collect data on progress, document session outcomes, and adjust teaching methods accordingly
• Support communication using various methods including American Sign Language (ASL) when applicable
• Maintain a safe environment by adhering to health and safety protocols during all activities
• Collaborate with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure consistent support and progress tracking

Skills

• Extensive experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder
• Strong background in special education, behavioral health, and behavior management strategies
• Proficiency in home & community care practices, caregiving, and assisting with ADLs
• Excellent communication skills tailored to diverse learners; familiarity with American Sign Language is a plus
• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation for community outings or errands
• Ability to collect accurate data for progress reports and coordinate with social work or healthcare teams
• Experience in medication administration, child care, or supporting children is advantageous
• Compassionate approach combined with patience, adaptability, and enthusiasm for teaching life skills
