Position Summary: A Plus Tree is hiring two full-time, limited-duration Watering & Establishment Technicians to support seasonal tree establishment work from early May through October, with the potential to extend into the fall planting season for the right fit.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to earn steady summer income while gaining hands-on experience in the tree care industry. In this role, you will work independently throughout the city, driving a large watering truck, following dedicated service routes, and helping newly planted trees establish successfully during the critical summer months.
This position is focused specifically on watering and establishment work. Ideal candidates are dependable, safety-minded, comfortable working independently, and confident using technology in the field to document completed work, audit tree conditions, and track contract requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a large watering truck throughout the Portland metro area
- Follow assigned daily and weekly watering routes with consistency and attention to detail
- Water newly planted and establishing trees according to contract requirements and seasonal needs
- Use an iPad and company software to log completed work, document service records, and track route progress
- Audit tree health and establishment conditions in the field, including signs of stress, damage, or decline
- Identify and document mulch needs, staking issues, and other basic establishment-related observations
- Report concerns, site issues, or tree condition changes accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain organized, accurate digital records of watering visits and field observations
- Conduct routine pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks and report maintenance or safety issues
- Represent A Plus Tree professionally while working independently in public and client-facing environments
- Support fall planting season work if an extension opportunity is available and mutually desired
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Valid driver’s license required
- Clean driving record required
- Comfortable driving a large truck safely and confidently throughout the workday
- Able to work independently, stay on route, and manage time effectively without direct supervision
- Comfortable using an iPad and digital software for field documentation and tracking
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow contract requirements closely
- Dependable, punctual, and prepared to work outdoors in summer conditions
- Interest in trees, horticulture, urban forestry, or outdoor field work
- Able to lift 75 pounds and perform physically active outdoor work throughout the day
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience driving large trucks, utility vehicles, or route-based service vehicles
- Experience in landscaping, irrigation, horticulture, nursery work, tree care, or other outdoor labor roles
- Familiarity with basic plant health observations, watering practices, or mulch application
- Experience using tablets, GPS routing, or field service software
Work Environment
This is a full-time outdoor position that involves driving, walking job sites, working in varying weather conditions, and performing physical tasks throughout the day. Work is performed independently in the field and requires safe decision-making, route discipline, and accurate record keeping.
