Position Summary
The Patient Service Representative (PSR) serves as the first point of contact for patients in a medical office or clinic. This role is responsible for ensuring a smooth check-in and check-out process, providing exceptional customer service, and supporting front office operations. The PSR greets patients, verifies insurance information, processes payments, schedules follow-up appointments, answers phone calls, and assists the Front Office Team Lead with administrative tasks, referrals, and prior authorizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients in a professional, friendly, and courteous manner.
- Perform patient check-in and check-out processes efficiently.
- Verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and benefits coverage.
- Collect co-pays, balances, and other payment information accurately.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and manage patient flow within the clinic.
- Answer incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and route messages appropriately.
- Assist the Front Office Team Lead with administrative support, referrals, and prior authorization requests from insurance companies.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and staff.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of relevant experience; OR
- High school graduate plus 1–2 years of experience and Certified Administrative Professional credential; OR
- Two-year associate degree and at least one (1) year of clerical or healthcare-related experience.
- EPIC EMR experience is REQUIRED.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Knowledge of insurance verification, co-pay collection, and referral processes preferred.
