Overnight Shelter Advocate

Hourly Pay Rate: $19.00

Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday ; 9 PM – 7 AM

Location: Glendale, AZ

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Responsibilities will include but not limited to:  

Role model appropriate behaviors to callers on the crisis calls and clients in the shelter, at all times, utilizing trauma informed principles and practices.  

Answer crisis calls, properly process, and document calls according to procedure. 

Provide crisis intervention, domestic violence information, and resources and referral services to callers/clients at the shelter. 

Communicate with hotel/motel and/or transportation agencies for client placement in overflow program and convey information appropriately to internal programs. 

Perform screenings, lethality assessments, and basic needs assessments for potential clients according to procedure. Assist with the introduction of program and facility orientation to incoming clients. Assist with client intake/exit paperwork as needed.            

Provide supportive services to clients in shelter and assist case managers with client needs. Establish/maintain client files, documentation and requesting paperwork; filing all documentation in a timely, accurate and thorough manner.    

Be responsible for issues relating to admission and discharge, in conjunction with the programs definition and policies as relevant to program/client needs.           

Access community resources to support the coordination of services for clients.

Assist with maintaining program appearance through cleaning and organizing internal/external offices, property, equipment, and agency vehicles. Report repairs and maintenance needs as appropriate. 

Stock and organize supply closet. Assist with inventory of supplies, including but not limited to clothing, hygiene items, food, and office supplies. 

Prepare and/or assist with meal/snack preparation, serving, and cleanup. Be able to lift a minimum of 30lbs. 

Monitor security of the property through hourly unit and grounds checks. Stay awake and alert during overnight shift.                                                                               

Review all communication sources (emails, shift reports, logs, staff meeting notes, etc.) to stay up to date on milieu, structure, changes, events, and client/program needs.                                  

  

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:        

High School or GED required 

Associate or Bachelor’s Degree, preferred 

 

Experience:      

Experience working with domestic violence, homeless or economically disadvantaged population, preferred. 

Knowledge of and/or experience with trauma informed practices required. 

Knowledge of community resources. 

Ability to drive passenger van, preferred 

Verbally bilingual in Spanish, preferred 

 

Compliance/Requirements:                 

Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card 

Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation, preferred 

Current Auto Liability Insurance, preferred 

39 Month Motor Vehicle Record, preferred 

At least 21-years of Age
