Overnight Shelter Advocate
Pay: $19.35
Schedule: Tuesday - Friday, 8pm - 6 am
Location: Apache Junction, AZ

Job Summary:
The Overnight Shelter Advocate provides trauma-informed, client-centered support and crisis intervention services to individuals and families residing in A New Leaf’s domestic violence shelter. This role is responsible for ensuring client safety, completing documentation, and helping facilitate access to internal and external resources during overnight hours. The advocate works collaboratively with case managers, outreach staff, and other team members to maintain a secure, welcoming, and organized environment.

Responsibilities:
1. Role model trauma-informed, professional behavior to all callers and clients in the shelter at all times.
2. Answer and document crisis calls according to procedure, providing crisis intervention, domestic violence education, and referral services.
3. Conduct client screenings, lethality assessments, and basic needs assessments per procedure; orient clients to the CAAFA program and facility.
4. Manage intake and discharge processes, including all documentation, in line with Emergency Crisis Response (ECR) guidelines and shelter policies.
5. Communicate placement logistics with hotels/motels, transportation providers, law enforcement, and placing agencies; keep CAAFA Outreach informed.
6. Provide supportive services to clients and assist case managers with meeting individual client needs.
7. Maintain thorough and timely client documentation in both written files and electronic databases.
8. Access and coordinate community resources to support client safety, stability, and recovery.
9. Stay up to date on client and program needs by reviewing communication sources, including shift reports, logs, staff meeting notes, and emails.
10. Monitor shelter safety and security by conducting hourly unit and property checks.
11. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment, including offices, communal areas, and agency vehicles.
12. Support administrative and operational functions, including documentation, inventory tracking, and reviewing shift handovers.
13. Organize and distribute food boxes, clothing, hygiene products, and other donated items; assist with supply inventory.
14. Operate agency vehicles and/or personal vehicles for errands, client transport, and program business.
15. Attend and actively participate in supervision and training as required by A New Leaf and CAAFA policy.
16. Remain available and responsive to individuals and families throughout the assigned shift.

Qualifications:Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, preferred.
  • Bilingual verbal communication skills in Spanish, preferred.
Experience:
  • Experience working with individuals impacted by domestic violence, homelessness, or economic disadvantage, preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with trauma-informed practices required.
  • Knowledge of local and regional community resources.
  • Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Primarily shelter-based work with occasional travel to various locations for meetings, client transport, or site visits.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods while assisting clients, performing assessments, and documenting in the shelter.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. for materials, supplies, or client-related items.
  • Standard shelter environment, with exposure to typical shelter equipment and tools, such as phones, computers, and office supplies.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to urgent needs in a fast-paced, crisis-driven environment.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions and documentation.

  • Valid Unrestricted Driver’s License
  • Current Auto Liability Insurance
