Position Summary
A New Beginning Children's Learning Center is seeking a dependable, skilled, and self-motivated Maintenance Technician to oversee the maintenance, safety, appearance, and functionality of our childcare centers. This position is responsible for maintaining all buildings, grounds, playgrounds, and equipment to ensure our facilities remain safe, attractive, and in excellent working condition for the children, families, and staff we serve.
The ideal candidate will have experience in general building maintenance, landscaping, preventative maintenance, and minor construction. This individual must be able to prioritize work orders, identify potential issues before they become major repairs, and take pride in maintaining high-quality facilities.
Primary ResponsibilitiesGrounds & Landscaping
- Maintain the appearance of all center grounds.
- Mow, edge, trim, and maintain all lawns.
- Prune trees, shrubs, and landscaping.
- Plant seasonal flowers and maintain landscape beds.
- Remove debris and keep parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances clean.
- Assist with snow or storm cleanup when necessary.
Facility Maintenance
- Perform preventative maintenance on all buildings.
- Complete minor plumbing repairs and fixture replacements.
- Monitor electrical systems and coordinate major repairs with licensed contractors.
- Repair drywall (Sheetrock), patch, texture, and paint walls.
- Install and repair flooring, including LVP, tile, and other flooring materials.
- Perform minor carpentry and construction projects.
- Repair doors, windows, locks, cabinets, shelving, and hardware.
- Conduct routine roof inspections and complete minor roof repairs when appropriate.
- Maintain HVAC filters and perform basic preventative maintenance.
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct routine inspections of playgrounds to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Inspect playground equipment and complete repairs as needed.
- Monitor and maintain fire alarm systems, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and other life safety equipment.
- Assist with annual inspections and regulatory compliance.
- Identify safety hazards and correct them promptly.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and inspection records.
Beautification & Improvements
- Improve the overall appearance of each facility.
- Complete painting and cosmetic improvements.
- Assist with remodeling and renovation projects.
- Recommend improvements that increase safety, efficiency, and curb appeal.
- Ensure each center presents a clean, professional appearance at all times.
Qualifications
- Experience in commercial or residential building maintenance preferred.
- Working knowledge of:
- Plumbing
- Electrical systems
- Carpentry
- Drywall repair
- Flooring installation
- Painting
- Landscaping and grounds maintenance
- Ability to safely operate landscaping and maintenance equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical labor, including climbing ladders and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with childcare, educational, healthcare, or commercial facilities.
- OSHA safety knowledge.
- Experience operating zero-turn mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and other maintenance equipment.
- General knowledge of fire safety systems and preventative maintenance programs.
