General Position Description
We are seeking a Farm to Table Chef/Food Service Supervisor who is passionate about preparing nutritious, high-quality meals for children and staff in a child care setting. This role focuses on daily food preparation, kitchen safety, cleanliness, and supervision of kitchen staff while following established menus and food service systems.
This position reports directly to the Center Director and plays an important role in supporting children’s health, wellness, and learning through food.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and deliver meals and snacks to classrooms following established menus
- Ensure meals meet CACFP guidelines, dietary restrictions, and food safety standards
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen in compliance with state licensing requirements
- Follow all center policies, procedures, and state regulations related to food service
- Supervise and support kitchen staff and daily kitchen operations
- Implement proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices
- Participate in age-appropriate cooking and food experiences with children
- Maintain ongoing professional development to support quality improvement
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- 1–2 years of professional food service experience (child care or institutional setting preferred)
- Early Childhood Education experience is a plus
- Experience with the CACFP program preferred
- Strong attention to detail related to cleanliness, food safety, and consistency
- Basic math skills for measuring and portioning
- Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass a full background check
Education Requirements
- Formal culinary training required
- Associate Degree in Culinary Arts preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to move throughout the facility as needed
