POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a second cosmetology instructor to join the LaPorte County Career and Technical Education Center. This person will be instructing 11-12 grade students from throughout LaPorte County on the state-approved cosmetology curriculum, preparing them for successful careers in the cosmetology and beauty industry. This position provides engaging instruction, hands-on training, and mentorship in a safe and inclusive learning environment that meets both state education and cosmetology board standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum & Instruction:
• Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans and dynamic curriculum that meet
state educational standards, Indiana State Board of Cosmetology requirements, and industry
trends
• Provide engaging instruction in all phases of cosmetology, including theory and hands-on
laboratory experience in hair cutting, coloring and formulating, styling, makeup application,
skin care, nail technology, facials, waxing, hot tools, blow drying, finger waves, etc (following
the Indiana Mark Book)
• Integrate academic and vocational curriculum to ensure students gain both technical skills
and essential professional skills such as communication and problem-solving
Student Assessment & Guidance:
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit
individual student needs
• Monitor and assess student progress through formal and informal testing, practical
evaluations, and portfolio reviews, providing constructive feedback
• Prepare students for Indiana State Board examinations and industry certifications through
comprehensive reviews and mock examinations
• Administer student assessments and State Cosmetology assessments as required
• Mentor and advise students on their academic and career paths, including job search,
interviewing, and resume writing skills
Classroom Management & Safety:
• Establish and maintain a safe, sanitary, and positive learning environment in both classroom
and salon/laboratory settings
• Supervise the safe and proper use of all tools, equipment, and chemicals, ensuring
compliance with all health and safety regulations
• Help maintain department equipment and labs
• Manage student behavior in accordance with the student code of conduct and school
policies
Administration & Collaboration:
• Complete all State Board Requirements for cosmetology instruction
• Organize and maintain accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and
applicable laws
• Assist with inventory management and record keeping to include inventory logs, reference
materials, and purchasing documents
• Collaborate with faculty, administration, and staff to enhance program quality and ensure
alignment with overall career center goals
• Participate in staff development activities, faculty meetings, and professional development to stay informed of industry advancements and educational best practices
Industry & Community Engagement:
• Collaborate with other cosmetology instructor to develop a marketing and public relations
plan to promote the cosmetology program
• Foster partnerships with local salons and industry professionals to create opportunities for
job shadowing, internships, guest speakers, and work-based learning experiences
• Develop strong community and parental involvement
• Monitor, promote, and encourage student participation in Career-Technical Student
Organizations (CTSOs), specifically SkillsUSA and ancillary marketing events that promote
the cosmetology program
• Other duties as assigned by the CTE Director(s)
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• Valid Indiana State Cosmetology License (must already be held)
• Indiana State Cosmetology Instructor License OR currently working toward obtaining the
Cosmetology Instructor License (must be obtained by August 1, 2026)
• Successful cosmetology work experience with at least 4,000 documented hours and the
ability to obtain a Workplace Specialist License. This is completed with the cooperation of
the LaPorte County Career and Technical Education Director
• Demonstrated competency and proficiency in all areas of cosmetology practices
• Strong communication, curriculum development, and organizational skills
• Ability to inspire, motivate, and connect with students from diverse backgrounds
• Motor Vehicle Operators License or ability to provide own transportation
Preferred:
• Prior CTE or vocational teaching experience
• Experience with Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)
• Knowledge of work-based learning, internships, and industry partnerships
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• Salary: Teacher Salary Schedule with benefits available
• Employment is year-to-year and based on having substantial enrollment
• Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required
