What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metal Fabricator (Fitter - Builder) position at A H Marty Company - Industrial Welding and Fabrication Job Shop?
In need of a confident, well rounded person to help us fit/build and get jobs ready to weld. If you are a builder that knows and understands how to put things together - let's talk
In-shop, day shift, no field work
Old-school "down and dirty" fab shop - Focused on building custom industrial metal fabrications. Often one-off or low-volume quantities, repair and rebuilds. Things change daily, so you get variety instead of production monotony.
The heart of the job is fitting and building - Looking for someone to help get jobs ready to weld. Laying parts out, holding dimensions, and putting assemblies together correctly. Someone that can take simplified prints and sketches and turn a pile of steel into something that fits together square, true, and right the first time. Tack welding is required and the only welding requirement. Welding is a plus, and if you are skilled at welding there is the opportunity to weld as well at times.
Materials: A36, stainless, AR400, hardface/overlay plate, aluminum
Equipment you'll use: MIG for tacking, drill, saw, grinder, and the usual fitting tools
What actually matters to us - More than anything, we need someone who understands and thinks about how things go together and can be trusted to get it right:
- Grasp how parts and joints come together, and build assemblies square and true
- Lay out holes and cuts - read a tape measure and hold dimensions with confidence
- Understand right-hand vs. left-hand versions
- Real attention to detail - you catch mistakes before they become rework
- Resourceful problem-solver - figure out how to build something and adjust as needed
- Comfortable running a MIG gun and tacking parts up solidly
- Reliable transportation and solid attendance
- Able to lift 60 lbs and be on your feet all day
- Good attitude and a team player, willing to help others get better
You don't have to be "a welder" by trade - If you come from a mechanic, millwright, machinist, maintenance, equipment-repair, machine-building, or general build-and-fix background, have run a MIG gun, and you're good with your hands and a tape measure — we'd like to talk. The building brain is what we're really after.
