Job Description: Drafter / Estimating Assistant
Position Summary
The Drafter plays a key supporting role within the Estimating Department, working directly under the supervision of the Estimator. This position is responsible for handling the detailed, time-consuming aspects of the estimating process—particularly the digital takeoffs, data entry, and documentation—that allow the Estimator to focus on strategy, analysis, and final proposal development. The Drafter ensures accuracy, consistency, and efficiency in every stage of the pre-construction process, while also assisting with permitting, documentation, and project closeout tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for plumbing, sheet metal, and piping systems, including:
· Measuring and inputting pipe lengths and footages
· Counting fixtures, equipment, and specialty items
· Compiling material and labor data into takeoff software
Compile and organize takeoff results for review by the Estimator, providing clean and accurate data sets for pricing and proposal development.
Review project specifications and drawings to ensure scope clarity and completeness.
Manage bid communications, including:
· Sending invitations to subcontractors and vendors
· Tracking responses and following up to ensure coverage
· Incorporating addenda and clarifications into project files
· Prepare and format draft proposals for Estimator review.
· Assist in quote reviews, comparing vendor and subcontractor proposals for accuracy and scope alignment.
· Support the Estimator in budget development for conceptual and pre-construction phases.
Secondary Responsibilities
· Pull and submit permits under direction of Estimator/Project Manager.
· Prepare and submit shop drawings to general contractors and design teams.
· Assemble O&M manuals and project closeout documentation.
· Assist in ordering equipment and coordinating with suppliers.
Qualifications
· Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
· Experience with takeoff software or willingness to learn (on-the-job training provided).
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
· Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
· Ability to work under deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
· Previous exposure to plumbing, HVAC, or piping systems (preferred but not required).manner.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $47,000.00 - $58,240.00 per year
