We are seeking a dependable and customer-focused Part-Time Scale House Clerk to support daily scale operations within our busy recycling and materials operation. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys interacting with drivers and customers, and can balance administrative responsibilities with strong customer service skills.

This part-time position primarily supports a swing-shift schedule, with hours generally beginning around noon/early afternoon through closing, plus full-day Saturday coverage during the construction season. The role will also provide coverage for the full-time Scale House Clerk during planned time off or unexpected absences, with anticipated weekly hours averaging approximately 30–32 hours.

Saturday availability throughout the construction season is required. Due to the seasonal nature of the construction industry, hours and workload may fluctuate during colder weather months, including the possibility of reduced schedules during slower periods.

Essential Responsibilities

• Operate truck scale systems accurately and efficiently
• Process inbound and outbound loads, tickets, and related documentation
• Provide excellent customer service to drivers, vendors, and customers
• Answer phones and assist with general office communication
• Maintain accurate records and data entry within company systems
• Coordinate with dispatch, operations, and yard personnel as needed
• Assist with cash handling and payment processing, if applicable
• Support office organization and general administrative tasks
• Provide scheduling coverage for the full-time Scale House Clerk when needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous clerical, administrative, customer service, or scale house experience preferred
• Prior experience working in construction, trucking, logistics, recycling, aggregates, or similar industries is a plus
• Basic computer proficiency and data entry experience required
• Availability to work assigned swing-shift hours and Saturdays throughout the peak construction season is required
• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance required

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This position operates within an active recycling and materials plant environment supporting heavy civil construction operations. Duties may be performed in both indoor and outdoor settings during daytime and evening/swing-shift hours.

The employee will regularly interact with truck traffic, heavy equipment, and vehicle activity while working in and around the scale house and yard areas. Working conditions may include exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, changing weather conditions typical of the Mid-Atlantic region, and other environmental conditions associated with construction and recycling operations.

The position may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and frequent computer and data entry work. Employees must be able to safely navigate active operational areas and maintain awareness of surrounding traffic and equipment movement.

Exposure to loud noise levels, traffic hazards, chemicals, uneven surfaces, and other industrial conditions may occur. Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be followed at all times.
