Position Title: Chief Executive Officer

Reports to: Board Chair on behalf of the Board of Directors

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Oklahoma City, OK


 

Organization Overview

A Chance to Change ("ACTC") has been a leader in mental health, substance use and addiction treatment services along with prevention education in the community for over 43 years. ACTC offers a full spectrum of outpatient counseling services and seeks to ensure programs are evidence based, relevant and remain at the forefront of current research. The agency serves populations of all ages, pay sources and has expertise in trauma and addiction work.


Responsibility Overview

The Chief Executive Officer is the leader of the organization and works in conjunction with the Board of Directors to establish a vision for community outreach that is achieved through the efforts of a diverse team of high-performing leaders, staff, and volunteers alike.


The CEO is the Chief Mobilizer; they leverage the power of relationships and networks, and work across private, public, and corporate sectors to educate the community on mental health issues. The CEO possesses a high level of broad business and management skills and is effective at generating resources and managing financial stability for the organization. The CEO is the steward of the brand and understands his/her role in growing and protecting the reputation of ACTC.

 

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:


Organization Management

The CEO is accountable for building and leading high-performing teams, ensuring all teams are aligned and collaborating to achieve organizational results. They maintain accountability for the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within policies set by the Board of Directors. The CEO assesses organizational capacity to implement strategies and identify gaps in systems and staffing; directly supervises leadership positions and establishes individual goals; manages organizational spending, monitors budget compliance, and mitigates financial risks; and ensures that goals of inclusiveness and diversity among staff and volunteers are met.

 

Strategic Management

The CEO serves as the principal resource to the Board of Directors and its key committees and gives strong direction in policy formulation and interpretation. The CEO partners with the Board of Directors and the leadership team to craft organizational goals and develop strategies to ensure that goals are achieved. They ensure coordination and alignment of all ACTC activities to strategic direction in the areas of program development, community impact, resource development, and staff alignment.

 

Resource Development

The CEO works with the Development Director to create fundraising strategy; supports the Development Director as he/she works to cultivate and solicit prospective donors and key leaders of prospective new corporate partners; and to promote a culture of fundraising in the organization, both at the staff and board level.


Community Impact

The CEO is responsible for the overall impact of ACTC on the community, with particular emphasis on providing quality and evidence-based mental health and addiction services. The CEO works closely with the Board to craft and adapt the strategy to achieve impact. The CEO is expected to be an active member of the community and will establish and build relationships with top leaders in the community, including those representing the highest levels in business, government, and non-profit sectors.


Education Background

Undergraduate degree required.

Training, experience, or advanced degree preferred in non-profit management, business, public administration, or health care administration. 

 

Experience and Position Requirements

  • Substantial experience working in the nonprofit sector or healthcare sector and interacting with volunteers and diverse boards. Alternatively, extensive senior strategic leadership experience in the management of organizations of comparable size and mission.
  • Expertise on issues relevant to the organization including mental health, substance use and addiction including insurance and Medicaid billing and reimbursement.
  • Ability to command the confidence and respect of stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated history of promoting diversity and an ability to build collaboration with the community at large.
  • Experience for 3-5 years in a leadership role required.
  • Experience in or across multiple sectors, including Oklahoma State Departments, nonprofit, public and corporate environments.
  • An understanding of State and Federal regulatory requirements as applicable to ACTC.
  •  Experience in developing partnerships, building teams and conflict management. Experience in building revenue and increasing philanthropic support.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of intelligence and intellectual curiosity and a desire to explore current ideas and innovative approaches to solving problems.
  • Unquestioned integrity is required.
