CERTIFIED PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST (CPSS)
A Brighter Day Community Supports is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and motivated Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) to join our team. The Peer Support Specialist will use their personal lived experience and recovery journey to support individuals receiving mental health and/or substance use services in developing skills, building independence, connecting with resources, and working toward their personal goals.
This position requires someone who is able to maintain professional boundaries while providing encouragement, hope, advocacy, and support in a respectful, person-centered manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide peer support services based on each individual’s needs, goals, and service plan.
- Use lived experience appropriately to provide encouragement, hope, and positive support.
- Assist individuals with identifying and working toward personal recovery goals.
- Encourage independence, self-advocacy, and community integration.
- Help individuals identify and connect with community resources and supportive services.
- Provide support with developing coping, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Accompany or assist individuals with community activities and appointments when appropriate.
- Maintain professional boundaries and protect individual confidentiality.
- Complete required service documentation accurately and timely.
- Maintain required service notes, progress documentation, and other agency records.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, QPs, care managers, and other members of the individual's support team.
- Follow the individual's Person-Centered Plan (PCP), service plan, agency policies, and applicable NC Medicaid requirements.
- Report incidents, concerns, changes in condition, or safety concerns according to agency policy.
- Attend required staff meetings, supervision, and ongoing training.
- Perform other duties related to the individual's support needs as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS/NCCPSS) certification REQUIRED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED preferred/required according to position requirements.
- Must meet North Carolina requirements for Certified Peer Support Specialists, including qualifying lived experience.
- Must maintain current CPSS certification and complete required continuing education.
- Must demonstrate the ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel within the community as required by the position.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must successfully complete agency onboarding and all required background/compliance requirements.
REQUIRED TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS
The following certificates/training are REQUIRED or must be completed as applicable to the position:
- Current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS/NCCPSS) Certification – REQUIRED
- CPR/First Aid – Current Certificate Required
- NCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) – Current Certificate Required
- Bloodborne Pathogens – Current Certificate Required
- Seizure Management – Current Certificate Required
- Medication Administration – Current Certificate Required if assigned duties include medication administration
- HIPAA/Confidentiality Training
- Any additional training required by A Brighter Day Community Supports, NC Medicaid, the applicable LME/MCO, or the individual's service plan

Applicants must be able to provide verification of their current CPSS certification and required training certificates as applicable.
