About A Better Chance of Andover
A Better Chance (ABC) of Andover is a residential educational opportunity program that provides academically talented young women of color from underserved communities with access to outstanding educational opportunities at local independent schools. Scholars live together in a supportive residential home where they receive academic, social, and emotional support as they prepare for success in high school, college, and beyond.
Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving healthy meals while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen. This position works closely with the Executive Director and Residential Director to ensure meals meet the needs of our scholars and support a positive residential community.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare nutritious lunches and dinners for scholars
- Develop weekly menus with a variety of healthy meal options
- Accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions
- Purchase groceries and maintain appropriate kitchen inventory
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards
- Monitor food quality, storage, and expiration dates
- Assist with occasional special events, celebrations, and family-style dinners
- Maintain records of purchases and stay within the food budget
- Communicate supply needs and menu updates with program leadership
Qualifications
- Previous experience in food service, meal preparation, or institutional cooking preferred
- Ability to prepare meals for groups efficiently
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Friendly, dependable, and team-oriented
- ServSafe Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Schedule
This is a part-time position primarily consisting:
Monday - Thursday, 2:30 - 5:30pm
