A Bar A Ranch Head Wrangler—Overview
A Bar A Ranch is a top-tier guest ranch that has been in operation for over 100 years. The riding program at A Bar A is central to the identity of the Ranch and to the guest experience. A Bar A has a long history of providing an authentic Western riding experience with excellent personal service to guests, high-quality horses, knowledgeable wranglers, strong safety record, diverse trails, and a high level of freedom and independence for riders.
The Head Wrangler is responsible for supporting the A Bar A Ranch Mission while providing a safe, fun, authentic, and flexible riding program for weekly guests of all ages, including: hiring and managing a team of 10 seasonal staff, caring for 120-horse herd, and fostering positive guest relationships. The ranch is committed to a high-performance culture with a focus on leadership team development.
- Benefited position with year-round salary.
- Start date: mid-May, 2026
- Location: A Bar A Ranch is located near Encampment, Wyoming. Housing is provided on-ranch from May through September.
- Reports to: Ranch Co-Manager (Lissa Howe)
- Schedule: Leadership team members work 6 days per week from May through September and with part-time remote work October through April.
Experience and Skills Required
- At least 3 seasons of work in a related business (ranching, guest ranch/lodge, or at A Bar A Ranch in any position)
- Equine experience and skills, including basic veterinary care
- Proven organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proven team management and leadership skills
- Customer service experience and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work an intense work schedule during the guest season (6 full days/week for 4 months)
- Communication skills, including verbal and written
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, email, basic Excel
- Physically capable of lifting at least 50 pounds and working in an active job daily
- College degree preferred
