Civil Construction Field Foreman

Reports To: Civil Construction Superintendent, and VP of Construction
Job Overview:
A Advanced Septic and Construction Services is seeking a skilled Civil Construction Field Foreman to oversee construction projects from start to finish. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of civil construction processes, including properly calculating slopes for grading and excavation.
As a Foreman, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while coordinating subcontractors, managing safety, and maintaining effective communication on-site. The Foreman will report directly to the Civil Construction Superintendent and the VP of Construction, ensuring alignment with project goals and organizational objectives. This is a working foreman position.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination & Supervision:
- Lead field operations, including managing work schedules, project progress, and resource allocation.
- Develop and maintain both short-duration and overall project schedules for workers and subcontractors.
- Plan construction processes to ensure the project stays on budget, covering labor, materials, and equipment.
- Assign tasks to crews, ensuring daily and weekly production goals are met.
- Maintain a daily log of site operations, reporting project status to the Civil Construction Superintendent and Civil Division Manager.
- Ensure that project deadlines and milestones are met while adhering to the project schedule.
Quality Control & Safety:
- Oversee quality control of construction processes, ensuring all projects meet the required standards.
- Conduct daily site inspections to ensure safety, making necessary adjustments to avoid hazards.
- Perform and document weekly worksite safety meetings.
- Ensure that subcontractors are adhering to safety regulations and worksite protocols.
Team Management & Development:
- Brief subcontractors as they start their jobs and regularly update them on project status and changes.
- Work with the Civil Construction Superintendent to estimate costs for labor, materials, and other project-related expenses.
- Train and mentor laborers, pipelayers, and other field staff to improve skills, safety, and efficiency.
- Ensure that team members are properly trained in their duties, including excavation, utility installation, and equipment operation.
- Provide ongoing development and guidance to employees, helping them advance in their roles and take on more responsibility as they gain experience.
- Foster a positive work environment, encouraging teamwork, productivity, and a safety-first mindset.
Slope Calculations & Grading:
- Properly calculate slopes for grading, drainage, and excavation, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications.
- Use tools such as laser levels, GPS systems, and rotator lasers for precise slope measurements and grading accuracy.
- Ensure proper water flow and drainage around the job site, preventing pooling or erosion.
- Train crew members on slope calculations and grading techniques, ensuring accurate and efficient work practices.
Communication & Reporting:
- Communicate effectively with the Civil Construction Superintendent and Civil Division Manager regarding manpower, equipment needs, schedule, and budget.
- Complete daily field reports and verify timecards for accuracy.
- Document and maintain field files, including updated drawings, schedules, and other critical information.
Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination:
- Monitor subcontractors’ scope of work and performance to ensure compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
- Coordinate with the Civil Construction Superintendent to ensure materials and equipment are available on-site as required.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
Job Requirements:

Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of construction experience, including 3 years of field supervisory experience.
- Proven experience with storm, sewer, and water pipe installations.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, including excavators, for excavation, installation, and backfilling of structures.

Skills:
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage teams effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA requirements, including ditch safety and worksite protocols.
- Ability to calculate slopes and grades for installation accuracy.
- Proficiency in using laser levels, GPS systems, and other surveying equipment for slope calculations.
- Experience in training and developing laborers, pipelayers, and other field employees.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic with a safety-first mindset.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with teams, subcontractors, and management.

Certifications & Licenses:
- Valid CDL license
- 3 years of verifiable driving history (learner's permit time excluded)
- Acceptable FMCSA Clearinghouse Report
- Must meet company and insurance carrier Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) standards and be insurable under the company's commercial auto policy.
- No DUIs, DWIs, or license suspensions within the past 5 years (per insurance carrier requirements)
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check in accordance with applicable laws
- Pass pre-employment drug screening and participate in random drug screening process.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 90 lbs).
- Capable of working in physically demanding and diverse weather conditions.
- Must be available Monday to Friday, with a typical start time of 6 AM, and be available for emergency repairs as needed, including after-hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CDL A preferred.
- Experience with underground utilities and excavator operations.
