Director of Nursing

Essential Functions Statement(s)

1. Coordinates and oversees all direct and indirect patient services provided by clinical organization personnel.
2. Provides guidance and counseling to coordinators and Case Managers to assist them in continually improving all aspects of home health care services, provided through organization personnel.
3. Assists Case Managers in managing clinical teams and planning.
4. Provides help in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care to all clinical personnel as indicated.
5. Assists the Administrator in the preparation and administration of the organization’s budget.
6. Interprets operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume, which could impact staffing levels, revenues or expenses.
7. Evaluate the performance of Clinical Case Managers.
8. Assists the Case Manager in developing skills and techniques for evaluating the performance of clinicians.
9. Manages organization personnel.
10. Conducts clinical performance evaluations 90 days from new hire and annually, or more frequently as indicated.Oversees the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports, and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of organization activities
11. Assures proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
12. Responsible for the maintenance of adequate and appropriate inventory supplies and equipment for the provision of patient services.
13. Develops, implements, and evaluates the orientation program for new organization personnel. Responsible for orientation in conjunction with Education Department, for new organization personnel, directly or by delegating to another staff member.
14. Plans and implements in-service and continuing education programs to meet the education and training needs of organization personnel.
15. Assists QAPI department with the evaluation of organization performance via performance improvement program, productivity, quarterly and annual reviews. Assures for the quality and safe delivery of home health services provided through the Organization.
16. Assists in the development of organization goals. Develops, recommends, and administers organization policies and procedures.
17. Assures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of organization personnel and, maintains compliance to the ACHC Home Care Standards.
18. Stays informed about changes in the field of nursing and home health care; shares information with appropriate organization personnel.
19. Promotes home health referrals in the health care community.
20. In the absence of the Administrator, the DON will become the acting Administrator and will be vested with the authority to act on behalf of the Administrator.
21. Other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Competency Statement(s)

1. Registered nurse with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Louisiana.
2. A graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
3. Three (3) years working as a RN.
4. One (1) year of direct patient care experience in home health.
5. Demonstrates ability to supervise and direct professional administrative personnel.
6. Ability to market and deal tactfully with customers and the community.
7. Has excellent observation, verbal, and written communication skills.
8. Knowledge of business management, governmental regulations, and ACHC standards.
9. Has been oriented to the Administrator job responsibilities.
