Job Description: The Wheelchair Transportation Assistant will be responsible for transporting passengers in a courteous, friendly manner. In addition, the Transportation Assistant will assist with various tasks that may arise on a daily basis.
Shift: Part-Time, Flexible, approximately 24 hours per week
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or general education (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Customer service experience required
· Possess the ability to learn wheelchair routes including appropriate passenger pick-up and drop-off locations
· Must be able to read and write in standard English language
· Must be able to push passengers in wheelchairs
· Must be able to push/lift up to 50 lbs.
· Must be able to walk long distances and work on your feet for several hours at a time
· Must be able to assist passengers with getting into and out of the wheelchair in a safe manner
· Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
· Must be able to write simple correspondence and use a digital time clock
· Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, clients, and other employees of the organization
· Must be able to read, understand and complete driver’s trip sheet/vehicle logbook and read and understand interoffice communications, schedules, maps, and other documents
· Wheelchair Assistant must have close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus while pushing a wheelchair
· Must be available to work flexible and long hours, when needed
· Must be at least 18 years of age and be able to pass a criminal background, and drug screen, due to insurance requirements
· Must complete the Wheelchair Safety Training provided by MVI and practice preventative safety measures at all times
· Must be able to safely and efficiently operate a wheelchair
· Shift times may change based on client needs but will be communicated in advance if a change is necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for transporting passengers in a courteous, friendly manner
· Must be able to communicate by telephone, two-way radio, and in-person in a courteous, friendly and professional manner with all guests, location staff, and co-workers
· Acknowledge and greet guests, in a timely manner, using the salutation of the day, while maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor
· Maintain composure while under pressure
· Perform all duties in a courteous, customer-focused manner
· Transport guests to appropriate places that are approved by the client/customer/rental car managers
· Possess the ability to learn wheelchair routes including appropriate passenger pick-up and drop-off locations
· Maintain the security of customers and their belongings during their transport
· Inspect the exterior and interior of wheelchairs at beginning of each shift to ensure they are operating properly and report any issues
· Monitor wheelchair condition and maintain records of malfunctioning items or damage and submit to manager
· Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of wheelchairs are properly cleaned on an ongoing basis, keeping wheelchairs neat and orderly at all times
· Responsible for immediately reporting all accidents and incidents observed on shift to management
· Must use only equipment trained to use and operate all equipment in a safe manner
· Must report all safety concerns to management
· Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times as set forth in the Employee Handbook
· Complete all tasks in a timely manner, as instructed by the manager
· Follow all attendance standards as set forth in the Employee Handbook and as required by the schedule
You may be asked by supervisors or managers to perform other duties, as necessary, to meet client requests and improve facility operations. You will be evaluated in part based upon your performance of the tasks listed in this job description.
