DIRECTOR OF DATA SCIENCE
SUMMARY:
The Loyalty Strategy and Rewards team’s goal is to create platforms to drive loyalty, make Kroger a destination, and grow quality first party data by driving loyalty programs as a partnership to navigate members’ dynamic life.
As a part of the broader LSR team, our LSR DSR team of data scientists equips the business to connect with members, drive valuable behavior change, and grow emotional loyalty with Kroger several areas
- Partner with the business to help define the strategy of loyalty programs such as Boost and DSP
- Generates actionable insights and data to drive business decisions
- Leads the technical side of innovative loyalty projects such as fresh mode, QR contactability, pump prompt, community rewards, amongst others
- Targets and measures a wide variety of campaigns and promotions such as fuel and paid memberships,
- Delivers first-class targeting and measurement science
As the leader of this amazing team, you will partner with the stakeholders to drive the roadmap, provide guidance and data science solutions to support and enhance our approach and understanding of the impact on the customer, mentor, manage and motivate a diverse team of data scientists to ensure they have the support and guidance needed to carry out their roles successfully as well as foster an inclusive environment that is a destination for Data Science talent where people feel empowered to learn and grow
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive for results on multiple projects simultaneously (strategic thinking and road mapping across a wide variety of projects)
- Ability to prioritize and balance short-term ad-hoc questions with long-term projects based on value and business impact
- Influencing and managing of many different stakeholders
- Strengthen and build DS skillsets by aligning the right work to the right Data Scientist
- Develop and maintain connection with technical stakeholders both at Kroger and 84.51°
- Partner with CSA, product and engineering to develop immediate and long-term project roadmaps to support loyalty program
- Design DSR workstream roadmap, assigned work according to the strengths and interests of the team members, coordinating efforts and tracking timelines
- Communicate methodologies and results to key stakeholders
- Develop and maintain connection with technical stakeholders both at Kroger and 84.51°
- Drive improvement and best practices in the cross platform approach of the solutions
- Advocate for broader usage and integration of loyalty specific data
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Technology and insights strengths a must
- High level SL (data robot and lookalike models, ANCOVA) familiarity would be a plus
- Targeting background a plus (bullseye experience, audience generations, lookalike model usage, etc.)
- Familiarity with a wide variety of DS tools (SQL, Exadata, Hadoop/PySpark, Alteryx, Power BI, Airflow)
- Experience mentoring team of data scientists and engineers
- Ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong analytical, creative problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong business acumen: grocery and/or retail experience is a plus
- Passionate about data, analysis and insights

- 6 years developing analytical solutions using advanced statistical methods and machine learning algorithms
- 6 years querying data from relational databases using SQL

- 6 years with data wrangling, data cleaning and prep, dimensionality reduction
- Strong academic background in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, or similar discipline
