Scheduled Weekly Hours: 0 The Health Information Management Intern will support the Health Information Management Department by organizing, reviewing, and securely disposing of outdated of unnecessary medical records. This role is designed for a high school student seeking to gain experience in a healthcare setting. Key Responsibilities: Review and Identify Records: Review medical records to identify those that are outdated or no longer needed according to facility policies and regulatory requirements. Ensure accuracy in identifying records for purging. Organize and Sort Records: Organize and sort records systemically for review and disposal. Maintain confidentiality and handle records with care to prevent data breaches. Document Destruction: Follow established procedures for the secure destruction of medical records. Record Maintenance: Ensure all actions are logged accurately in accordance with facility policies. Compliance and Confidentiality: Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and facility policies regarding the handling of medical records. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times. Support Tasks: Assist with other clerical duties as needed within the Health Information Management Department. Collaborate with team members and report any issues or discrepancies to the manager. Qualifications: Education: Currently enrolled in high school or college Skills: Strong attention to detail and organization skills. Ability to follow instructions and work independently. Basic computer skills and familiarity with office equipment. Excellent communication skills. Other Requirements: Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. Physical ability to lift and carry records as needed (up to 20 pounds). Schedule: Flexible scheduling to accommodate school commitments. Daytime hours including 2-3 days per week.
