Hours of Work : 8am - 5pm Days Of Week : Mon - Fri Work Shift : Job Description : Job Summary: This is a dual-functioning leadership role as Director over the Magnet Program and Nursing Education and Professional Development (NEPD) department. The Magnet Program Director is responsible for assisting the CNO in the oversight, direction, and management of the Magnet Journey at Methodist. Has accountability for the implementation of the Nursing Strategic Plan initiatives related to obtaining/maintaining Magnet Recognition and ensuring the organization's milieu reflects the internalization of the five components of Magnet. The Director assumes responsibility for coordinating the ANCC Magnet application, designation, and redesignation process. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the Methodist Health System mission, vision, and values along with the MHS Nursing Mission, Vision, and Values. Sets the tone and excitement for advancing nursing practice The NEPD director collaborates with interprofessional team members to oversee the daily operations of the NEPD department through supervision of personnel, oversight of the development of effective educational activities, ongoing nursing orientation efforts, and integration of externs and interns into the organization's culture. Job Requirements: Education: Masters in Nursing or other Health-related program required. Licenses and/or Certifications: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas. Specialty Certification required within 12 months of hire Work Experience: At least five (5) years or more of progressive Nursing Leadership experience required. Experience with Magnet Journey preferred. I. Primary Function The Magnet Program Director is responsible for assisting the CNO in the oversight, direction and management of the Magnet Journey. Has accountability for the implementation of the initiatives related to obtaining Magnet recognition, Nursing Strategic Plan initiatives related to obtaining Magnet Recognition, and ensuring the organizations milieu reflects the internalization of the five components of Magnet. The Director assumes responsibility for the coordination of the ANCC Magnet application, designation, and re-designation process. II. Essential Duties and Measurements Transformational Leadership Coordinates and disseminates Nursing Strategic Plan initiatives related to obtaining Magnet Recognition Coordinates the Nursing Leadership Retreat to identify annual goals and evaluate prior year performance Oversees and coordinates implementation of the Clinical Ladder program to ensure compliance with criteria, in a system model; develops system processes in collaboration with nursing leadership for annual review of all clinical ladders, ensuring consistency in implementation and evaluation across the system Leads the development of a system annual nursing report, with responsibility for creating the annual nursing report Follows the Timeline for the Magnet Journey with anticipated achievement Conducts a Gap Analysis and coordinates the assessment and analysis Structural Empowerment Coordinate the Design and Implementation of a Shared Governance Model Develops a Structured Model to allow for nursing involvement in committees and task forces to improve patient care and operations Supports Nursing Involvement in the community Leads and coordinates the review of certification reimbursement and participation Assists in the development of the annual goals for nursing participation in advancing degrees, certifications and attendance at regional, national and international conferences Initiates and participates in the development of policies, procedures, and protocols related to patient care and standards of nursing practice for hospital services, programs, and patients Exemplary Professional Practice Coordinates the development of a system-wide Professional Practice Model Participates in the development of a patient care delivery model that defines how care is delivered, the skills required, the context of care and expected outcomes Annually reviews resources available to staff nurses to access policies, procedures and research Assists with the evaluation of nursing workplace safety initiatives New Knowledge, Innovations and Improvements Assists the Nursing Researcher in the development of a system structure for nursing research Ensures the effective implementation of a nursing research and participation of nurses Develops annual targets for nursing involvement in nursing research in collaboration with system nursing leadership Coordinates with NEPD in the education of all nurses on evidence-based practice and research Develops and implements the Nursing Communication for the MHS Intranet Empirical Outcomes Distributes nurse sensitive outcomes to staff Ensures outcomes are progressing to the level of Magnet recognition Other duties as assigned within scope and appropriate practice parameters Other Considerations (communication, interpersonal skills, etc.) Must exhibit communication skills essential to facilitate work groups, resolve conflict, persuade, and negotiate - Sets the tone and excitement for advancing nursing practice Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the Methodist Health System mission, vision, and values along with the MHS Nursing Mission, Vision, and Values.
