Project Accountant (Design / AEC Projects)

We’re looking for a Project Accountant to join a fast-moving design studio supporting high-profile interior and architecture projects. This person will be a key partner to project teams, helping manage the full financial lifecycle of projects—from setup through closeout. Responsibilities

• Build and maintain project financial structures, including Schedules of Values, in Deltek and Excel.
• Support project managers with budgeting, forecasting, labor tracking, and cost analysis.
• Review contracts and participate in project kickoffs to confirm billing requirements and financial setup.
• Prepare and process accurate monthly billing in coordination with internal teams and external consultants.
• Ensure invoices align to contracts, schedules, and billing deadlines.
• Track and manage Accounts Receivable, flagging risk and following up with teams to support collection.
• Record and reconcile cash receipts; ensure payments are applied correctly.
• Audit projects as needed to confirm financial accuracy and compliance.
• Review consultant invoices against contract terms; approve and route for payment.
• Produce recurring reporting for leadership, including AR and cash receipt summaries.
• Participate in weekly/monthly billing and AR meetings and provide clear status updates.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of project accounting experience, ideally in AEC, interiors, or professional services.
• Strong working knowledge of Deltek (Vision, Vantagepoint, or Ajera).
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort working across multiple budgets and billing structures.
• Familiarity with percent-complete billing and phased design/construction workflows is a plus.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong follow-through and deadline management.
• Clear communicator who enjoys partnering with project teams and leadership.
