Policy & Communications Fellow
Location: Remote (Nashville-based organization; occasional in-person optional)
Duration: 10-12 weeks (dates negotiable; Summer 2026)

TennesseeCAN is part of 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now, a nonprofit organization that helps local leaders advocate for a high-quality education for all kids, regardless of their address. 50CAN operates campaigns in Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee.
Internship Overview
TennesseeCAN seeks a highly organized and motivated intern to support our work in research, communications, and organizational operations. This role offers hands-on experience in policy advocacy, nonprofit development, and strategic communications.
The intern will work closely with TennesseeCAN leadership and contribute to projects that support statewide policy initiatives and organizational growth.
Communications & Digital Media
- Assist with graphics or formatting for posts
- Support development of Mailchimp newsletters
- Monitor education policy news and media coverage
- Assist with blog posts or website content
Education Policy Research
- Conduct light research on education policy & implementation
- Compile education data and reports
- Summarize policy research and legislation
- Gather political, policy, and media intelligence across Tennessee every week
Fundraising & Development
- Support event planning and fundraising outreach
- Help draft donor updates or development materials
Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Interested in education policy, public policy, or nonprofit advocacy
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Strong communicator with strengths in creativity, discretion and writing
- Candidates with backgrounds in public policy, communications, political science preferred

Internships at 50CAN
This position is temporary fully remote (Central Coast hours) opportunity. Candidates must reside within the state of Tennessee and have reliable transportation. The role will report directly to the TennesseeCAN Executive Director.
