Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary: The Orthopedic Technician (Ortho Tech) is responsible to provide the highest quality comprehensive patient care to ensure positive patient outcomes when casting, bracing, and/or applying orthotics as directed by the physician. He/She will work directly with the orthopedic surgeons to ensure that continuity of patient care including patient education and assessment of need is addressed in a timely manner. The Ortho Tech is a resource to ancillary staff i.e. Patient Care Assistants and Certified Medical Assistants to include brace fitting and application. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Responsible to ensure quality care is given to patients requiring casting, splitting, bracing and/or the application of orthotics that may be ordered by the physician. Assists and monitors patient care in the proper fitting and application of pre-operative braces, crutches, and other soft goods. 60% Assists the PCAs/CMAs with suture/staple removal, dressing changes, and pin removal. Ensures ancillary staff is competent in brace fitting and application. 25% Assists with Ambulatory Intake, rooming patients, completing discharge information in a timely fashion. Addresses education with patients and staff members concerning casting/bracing/pin removal/fitting and application. 5% Monitors and orders supplies as needed while staying within the supply budget that is set forth at the beginning of each Fiscal Year. The Ambulatory Manager must sign off on all orders. Shrinkage will be monitored and reported. 5% May be required to function as a Patient Care Assistance/CMA during a staffing shortage. Joint Commission preparation; Environment of Care readiness and State and Federal requirements will be upheld and monitored for compliance. 5% Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma / GED General Required and( Accredited Program Medical Assisting Required or Other / Certificate Other / Related Field Required or) Education clarification: High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or Registered Orthopedic Technician certification. Required Minimum 2 years as a Certified Medical Assistant or 0 years experience with Registered Orthopedic Technician Certification. Required Certification clarification: Must have CMA or Registered Orthopedic Technician certification plus BLS.
