DEPARTMENT: Agency: Graphic Design

LOCATION: Sycamore, Illinois

SALARY RANGE: $45K to $55K Salary

A UNIQUE PLACE

Work is a gift from the loving Father to his beloved sons and daughters. And yet, receiving this gift and offering it back to our Creator can be difficult due to the brokenness and frailty of our fallen nature. We seek to answer the Lord’s invitation to lean into this tension as we build an apostolate entirely devoted to honoring God both with what we do and how we do it. It’s not perfect because we are not perfect. And still, we persist because “he who made the promise is trustworthy.” (Hebrews 10:23)

FOR A UNIQUE PURPOSE

Amidst the obvious challenges, God is doing something amazing in our world… and we are grateful to be a part of it. Just as David reached for five smooth stones when God called him to slay the giant Goliath, when God raises up leaders in the Church, they reach for 5 Stones to help them answer his call.

When it’s time to clarify a brand message, solve logistics nightmares, untangle tech troubles, or break through media malaise, we’re here to help Catholic apostolates get unstuck and unleashed. Join our passionate, close-knit team in Sycamore, IL, who joyfully accompany mission-driven organizations with the professional services they need to succeed.

THE ROLE WE NEED

5 Stones is seeking a graphic designer to work collaboratively with the rest of our agency team to serve our growing list of Catholic clients. A graphic designer does this by compellingly and consistently representing our clients’ brands through a vast variety of communication pieces across the digital and print landscape—making work that is good and true become winsomely beautiful.

Because we are a small and agile team, this role requires creative adaptability and comfort in the not-perfectly-clear. While we can’t script what each day holds, we are certain this team member will be asked to…

  • Work collaboratively with clients, account managers, project managers, marketers, copywriters, and developers to create functional digital and print experiences that convince and convert.
  • Deliver consistent design work across a large spectrum of project types, including but not limited to the following:
    • brand systems
    • logo design
    • web design
    • digital advertising
    • email campaigns
    • product photography
    • sales collateral
    • direct mailing pieces
    • social media
    • and more
  • Execute occasional production design tasks, such as file preparation for print pieces or layout changes to printed products.

THE PERSON WE NEED

The right candidate for the graphic design position will be…

  • Creative with an appetite to explore ideas outside of the box
  • A confident and enthusiastic communicator
  • Willing to think beyond just the visuals and offer their own strategic insight into projects
  • Open to receiving feedback and direction from team members and clients without taking it personally
  • Naturally curious and unafraid to take a calculated risk on a new idea
  • Ready to dive into new projects they haven't done before and learn new skills
  • Able to balance quality, time, and budget to produce the best possible work on every project
  • ‍Humble and aware of their deep goodness and dignity as a beloved child of God

And the right candidate will have...

  • A bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or Visual Communications is preferred but not necessary if an applicant has the necessary skill sets from professional experience
  • An impressive portfolio showcasing stunning work across a variety of projects
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud programs, namely, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator (other programs a plus)
  • Experience with Webflow and/or Figma is preferred but not necessary
  • Excellent communication skills allowing him or her to share design best practices and rationale clearly in a way that builds up the relationship with our clients
  • Experience creating and/or working in brand systems, adhering to branding guidelines, and executing a brand across various mediums and projects
  • A passion for work that keeps him or her up-to-date with today’s design, technology, entertainment, and culture
  • Personal commitment to continuous improvement of technical skills, efficiency, quality, communication and collaboration skills, etc.
  • An understanding of how to set up design files for print and digital
  • An unwavering steadiness and peacefulness rooted in the Catholic identity

  • A one-of-a-kind work environment built by a close-knit team of men and women who share your passion and vision
  • Premium healthcare and dental coverage (75% paid by the company)
