Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CNC Set Up Machinist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and programming CNC machines to produce precision parts that meet strict quality standards. Your expertise will ensure smooth operations on CNC milling machines and lathes, utilizing your mechanical knowledge and technical skills to optimize manufacturing processes.
Duties
- Set up CNC milling machines and CNC lathes, including installing tooling and fixtures according to specifications
- Program CNC machines using CAM programming software and interpret blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) drawings to ensure accuracy
- Conduct machine calibration using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs)
- Perform routine inspections of machined parts to verify conformance with specifications using tools like dial indicators and height gauges
- Troubleshoot machining issues promptly by adjusting tooling or machine parameters to maintain quality and efficiency
- Maintain detailed setup documentation, including tool offsets and process parameters for repeatability
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through lean manufacturing principles and efficient tooling management
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a CNC Set Up Machinist with strong knowledge of CNC programming, including Fanuc controls or similar systems
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and applying GD&T principles accurately
- Mechanical aptitude with understanding of machining processes involving plastics injection molding or metal components
- Skilled in operating precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and CMMs
- Familiarity with CAD software like SolidWorks or general CAD/CAM programming tools for part design and setup planning
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and mechanical schematics effectively
- Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a plus but not required
- Ability to work safely using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and tooling setups
- Strong math skills for calculations related to machining tolerances and adjustments
- Valid forklift certification is preferred for material handling within the shop environment
