Phlebotomist
Education and Experience:
· Valid certification to practice in the state of California as a Phlebotomist.
- must be Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/BLS) for providers certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
· Must provide proof of experience with specimen collection, packaging and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records and proof of experience of working in a correctional setting along with three (3) letters of reference.
· Shall provide a resume and requested documentation along with copy of all diplomas and/or certificates to support stated qualification.
Description of Duties:
· Will provide Phlebotomy Services in a method commensurate with the local community. These services, although not directly supervised, will be reviewed by a physician on staff at the institution. The performance of these services will also be verified by the designated (COR). The Contractor will be responsible for the following:
- Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patient’s vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
- Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit, to include A&O in-processing and DNA per procedure.
- Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures. Ensure that lab requests are completed properly and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and file results in lab and medical record.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
- Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies.
- Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
Part-time; 40 hours per week - 5 days at 8 hrs a day - between 6:00 am to 2:30 pm with 30 minute unpaid lunch break. Hours may be adjusted to meet needs of penitentiary.
