About The Role

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time/Time Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic WG-5803-10 to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412 Mission Support Group, 412th Logistics Readiness Squadron, (LRS/LGRV) at Edwards Air Force Base, in Edwards, CA.

The primary purpose of this position is: To maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, and modify a variety of heavy duty vehicles and mobile equipment which have utility systems or special hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems, features, or controls designed for such purposes as construction, combat, earth moving, firefighting, refueling, and comparable industrial or special applications.

Typical 2025 salary range: $70,102 - $81,664 /per year (includes locality)

Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible

  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble shooting

Major Duties

  • Perform heavy mobile equipment mechanic work including troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the type and extent of repair required, repairing, and maintaining equipment.
  • Perform automotive mechanic work including troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the type and extent of repair required, repairing, and maintaining vehicles including forklifts, tow tractors, etc.
  • Use diagnostic tools, orders parts, complete documentation, and provide training and assistance to others.
  • Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Repair, overhaul, tear down/rebuild, modify, and maintain a variety of systems and components including diesel, multifuel, and gasoline engines, transmissions and gear reduction systems, etc.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Obtain & maintain Security clearance (if applicable)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical (if applicable)
  • Knowledge of heavy mobile equipment assembly, installation, and repair, i.e., bulldozers, road graders, power shovels, mobile cranes, heavy combat equipment, and missile transporters.
  • Knowledge of technical practices in order to repair/overhaul major systems (i.e., diesel, multi-fuel, and gasoline engines, automatic and manual transmissions, multi-gear assemblies, and a variety of positioning systems) and to remove, replace, clean, and install a variety of parts, components, and accessories (i.e., wheel cylinders, universal joints, springs, shock absorbers, catalytic converters, clutch assemblies, mufflers, etc.)
