Role: Sr. Data Scientist
Location: Sandy, UT (In-Office, Flexible work options available)
Reports To: CTO
The Senior Data Scientist will be the first and sole Data Scientist in the organization, serving as a foundational member of 401GO’s growing data function. In this role, you will not only lead advanced analytics, modeling, and experimentation efforts, but also help shape the long-term data strategy and infrastructure for the company.
As the team and business scale, this role will be responsible for building, hiring, and managing a high-performing data science team. This is an ideal position for someone who thrives in high-growth environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and is excited about owning both hands-on analytics and future leadership responsibilities.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead the Data Science Program: Architect the long-term data science roadmap, including infrastructure, hiring, processes, and best practices.
- Build and mentor a high-performing data science and analytics team as the company grows.
- Establish data governance, documentation standards, and model lifecycle management.
- AI and Machine Learning Development: Develop and curate high-quality datasets for internal AI tools, ensuring privacy, security, and consistency.
- Hands-On Data Science and Analytics: Analyze complex datasets to uncover trends, behaviors, operational bottlenecks, and strategic insights.
- Build dashboards, predictive models, and custom analytics to support executive decision-making.
- Work closely with Finance to improve forecasting, cost modeling, revenue analytics, and operational reporting.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with executives, engineering, operations, customer success, finance, and product to identify data opportunities and drive measurable impact.
What You Bring:
- 10 years of professional data science experience, including senior or lead-level responsibilities.
- A willingness to be a “jack of all trades” data scientist, willing to switch between high-level strategy and deep hands-on execution.
- Experience creating and managing datasets for AI applications, or a willingness and eagerness to learn.
- Experience working with cloud platforms (GCP preferred; BigQuery experience is a plus).
- Experience with BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Metabase, etc.).
- Proven ability to build and scale data programs, processes, and teams.
- Experience supporting business functions like Finance, Operations, Product, or Growth with analytics and reporting.
- Strong communication skills, able to present complex insights to executive leaders and non-technical teams.
