About the role We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to support open pit slope design, geotechnical risk management and design implementation at the Bingham Canyon Mine. Reporting to Superintendent Geotechnical Design, on a Monday to Friday roster and working collaboratively with operational and functional teams, you will be responsible for: Providing geotechnical engineering support for open pit slope design, design changes and mine plan implementation. Collecting, reviewing and interpreting geotechnical data, including mapping, core logging, monitoring, drilling, structural geology and rock mass information. Performing slope stability assessments, including kinematic, deterministic, probabilistic and numerical modelling where required. Identifying, characterizing and communicating geotechnical hazards and slope instability risks that may impact safety, production or mine value. Developing practical mitigation, remediation and monitoring recommendations in collaboration with operations, mine planning, geology, hydrogeology and monitoring teams. Supporting geotechnical design governance processes, including design reviews, risk assessments, technical documentation and alignment with Rio Tinto standards. About you A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team Bachelor’s degree in mining, geological, geotechnical engineering or a related field; master’s degree preferred. 5 Experience in open pit geotechnical engineering, including slope design, slope stability numerical analysis and geotechnical risk management. Experience with slope stability assessment methods, including kinematic, deterministic and probabilistic analysis; numerical modelling experience is desirable. Strong understanding of geotechnical data collection and interpretation, including mapping, core logging, drilling, monitoring data and rock mass characterization. Ability to identify, assess and communicate geotechnical hazards and develop practical risk mitigation recommendations. Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with mine planning, operations, geology, hydrogeology, monitoring teams and external consultants. Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical documentation and communicate recommendations to different audiences.
