OVERVIEW
St. Alphonsus School is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Full-Time Preschool & Extended Care Assistant to support our licensed preschool program for children ages 2.5 to 5 years old. This role is ideal for someone who loves working with young children, values early childhood education, and enjoys being part of a faith-based community.
HOURS
9:30am-6pm, Monday-Friday, when school is in session.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist the lead preschool teacher in implementing age-appropriate activities that foster social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Supervise and engage with children during playtime, circle time, and other classroom activities.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
- Support children with basic needs such as handwashing, snack time, and restroom assistance.
- Encourage positive behavior and model respectful interactions.
- Assist with classroom setup, transitions, and end-of-day cleanup.
- Collaborate with the preschool teacher and school staff to ensure a nurturing and structured learning environment.
- Adhere to school policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations.
- A patient, warm, and supportive demeanor.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
COMPENSATION
The range for this position is $25-$35/hour. Compensation is determined based on internal equity, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma required; degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
- Experience working with young children in a school, daycare, or similar setting preferred.
- Must pass background check and meet Archdiocese of Seattle Safe Environment requirements.
- Must have or be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR certificate, TB test, food handler’s permit, and DCYF MERIT account.
