GENERAL INTRODUCTION:

Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.



GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:



This position is expected to develop a long-term vision and direction for the Agape Service Project, with a particular focus on the group experience and the project’s role in supporting the evangelization of youth and young adults.  Agape additionally focuses on the farmworker and immigrant community, specifically their unique needs and the ways the Catholic Church can respond.  Directly supervises the programming areas for the Agape Service Project including program planning, budget management, development and fundraising, staff management, and coordination with social services.  Ensures promotion of Catholic Social Teaching in community with migrant populations and directs the day-to-day ministerial operations and needs of the Agape Service Project in Whatcom County.



ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:



  1. Under the guidance of the Director of Mission and Immigrant Affairs, collaborates with department staff and other Chancery staff in implementing the mission of the project, and assures effective stewardship through planning, preparing, and monitoring the budget, hiring and supervision of seasonal staff, administration of the program, lesson planning ministry focused content, and oversees Lifelong formation of communities.


  1. Develops, plans, and coordinates the overall vision and mission of the Agape Service Project, ensuring the program extends the ministry of the Archbishop and is implemented in accordance with the goals, policies, and the mission of the local and universal Church:

  1. Coordinate Mass, prayers, and adoration of the eucharist in communal settings by coordinating with ministers.
  2. Direct all aspects of 7 weeks of summer programming (i.e. housing, meals, showers, scheduling, prayer, curriculum delivery, group facilitation, fleet/equipment management, liturgical coordination, etc.)
  3. Serves as the public face of Agape Service Project, cultivating alumni, donor, community, volunteer, parish, and school relationships.
  4. Works with the Development Department on fundraising, soliciting private donations, and grant writing support for program related grants.
  5. Works with the Lifelong Formation Department and the Office of Catholic Schools to promote, recruit, support, and manage parish/school groups for service immersion weeks. Coordinates, registers, and supports volunteer groups for summer programming.
  6. Develops and manages all Agape-related communication to cultivate a relationship of pastoral care with parishes, schools, donors, and alumni, leveraging digital platforms and traditional media (e.g. newsletter, etc.) to garner participants and expand awareness of the Agape mission.
  7.  Evaluates program effectiveness, makes recommendations for improvement, and implements changes as approved to meet the goal of providing community ministerial care.

 

  1. Fosters the engagement of program participants:
  1. Creates a spiritually focused and service centered experience by designing faith-centered programs that are based in Catholic Social Teaching and current models of youth and young adult ministry.  Adapts all offerings based on feedback from program participants and staff. 
  2. Builds relationships and works with the youth, adult leaders, parishes, local organizations, community members, farmers, migrant workers and their children, staff, potential and current donors, and others.
  3. Expands program outreach by visiting potential schools, parishes, and ministry events and building relationships with ministers, educators, and community partners.
  4. Hires, forms, and manages seasonal staff including college-aged young adults, guiding and empowering them as lay leaders in the Church. 
  5. Fosters a “Culture of Encounter” with the farmworker and immigrant community of Whatcom County through planning and implementation of relational social services. (e.g. mobile food delivery, summer enrichment activities for children, and community meals) 

 

  1. Fosters a collaborative working relationship with Catholic Community Services (CCS) NW/Whatcom County, Bellingham Food Bank, and other local service agencies.

 

  1. Collaborates with Director of Youth Ministry Services to develop ongoing mission opportunities for youth during the school year as part of a future visioning plan.
Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Primary


  1. Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
  2. Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
  3. Active member of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Church.

 

  1. Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred
  2. Two years’ experience leading a team and volunteers (youth and adults)
  3. Experience working or serving at Agape preferred
  4. Experience working with non-profits and budgets preferred
  5. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

 

  1. Other Elements:

  1. Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  2. Ability to lesson plan and coordinate to meet spiritual needs of a community and lead evangelization efforts.
  3. Strong organizational skills and demonstrated multi-tasking skills.
  4. Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a professional, friendly and welcoming demeanor.
  5. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  6. Must possess a valid Washington driver’s license to travel with the Archdiocese of Seattle.
  7. Ability to lift at least 60 pounds.
  8. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  9. Knowledge of and familiarity with the Catholic Church in Western Washington, preferred.
  10. Knowledge of cultural diversity required.
  11. Ability to reside in Whatcom County while program is in session. 
  12. Bilingual competency preferred, English/Spanish.

 

 

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications

Eligible positions receive a comprehensive package of benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death and disability, long term disability, pension, 403(b), HSA, FSA, and generous sick leave, vacation and holidays.











Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
