Job Overview
We are seeking a Part- Time or Seasonal Explosive Detection K9 Handler to join our team in Downtown Manhattan, NYC. This position supports explosive threat detection operations at high-profile facilities, venues, and special events.
Handlers will work alongside a trained explosive detection canine to conduct proactive security sweeps in dynamic environments.
This role is ideal for experienced detection teams looking for flexible operational work in a major metropolitan environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct explosive detection sweeps of designated locations including venues, public facilities, and event spaces
- Deploy and handle a trained explosive detection K9 in operational environments
- Maintain the health, conditioning, and training of the working K9
- Conduct routine training to maintain operational readiness and certification standards
- Complete activity logs and operational reports as required
- Coordinate with security teams, operations personnel, and site management
- Adhere to company protocols, client requirements, and applicable federal and local regulations
Minimum Requirements
- 3 years of K9 handling experience
- Prior explosive detection experience required
- Nationally recognized Explosive Detection Certification if deploying with your own K9
- Candidates without a personal K9 may be considered if they possess prior explosive detection handler certifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain required security clearances
Skills Required
- Proficient in explosive detection deployment and sweep procedures
- Strong situational awareness in high-traffic environments
- Ability to read and interpret canine behavior and detection changes
- Ability to maintain detailed operational documentation and reports
- Professional interaction with clients, venue staff, and security teams.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in varied environments and weather conditions
- Ability to safely deploy and control a working detection canine
- Capable of passing vision and hearing examinations
Preferred Experience
- Military or law enforcement detection background.
- Previous experience working and commuting in and around large metropolitan environments or high-profile venues
