Reporting to the Construction Site Manager (CSM) and Construction Safety Department, the Site Safety Manager provides functional guidance and oversight for the Utility Scale Renewable Energy projects construction safety program by giving the CSM subject matter expertise in the areas of health and safety. Responsible for implementing project safety requirements (field walk-downs, communicating, training, and auditing for compliance with safety procedures), conducting daily field observations to ensure regulatory and contractual requirements are being adhered to, holding meetings with the Contractor Safety teams to address observed concerns, and providing observation information to the CSM to ensure safety related issues are being addressed in a timely manner. This position will be based onsite.

Skills / Experience

Risk Assessment

  • Understand Contractor SSSP and all contractual Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) reporting requirements.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and assess risks associated with various project activities.
  • Develop mitigation plans prioritizing the well-being of personnel and environment with project safety teams.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA Federal and State regulations.
  • Stay current with local, State, and Federal safety regulations and standards.
  • Provide input to Contractor Safety team and CEG Site Management team on Safety related matters.

Training and Education

  • Administer safety training programs to ensure all personnel are informed of potential risks and safety protocols.
  • Provide ongoing education to promote a culture of safety awareness.

Site Inspections

  • Ensure and understand that the site team does not provide direction to the EPC, rather observe, and suggest recommended changes based on the EPC contractual agreement and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety standards, regulatory and contractual safety requirements, and to identify potential hazards.
  • Initiate or suggest corrective actions as needed to mitigate risks and maintain safe working conditions.

Day-to-Day

  • Meet with site team daily to review and discuss Safety Observations, concerns, and corrective actions.
  • Attend and participate in daily POD with the EPC contractor and vendors.

Incident Management

  • Support investigations into safety incidents and accidents, identifying root causes.
  • Work with Contractor Safety team and CEG site management team to review site incident information. Ensure investigative reporting meets contractual obligations, adequately provides incident findings, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate incident records reporting.

Safety Documentation

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive safety documentation, including safety plans, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ensure that all personnel have access to relevant safety information.
  • Prepare safety reports for site management team and construction Safety Department.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Oversee monthly inspections of PPE, first aid kits, AEDs, and fire extinguishers carried in vehicles.
  • Communicate emergency response plans and protocols for scenarios such as natural disasters or accidents.
  • Coordinate with EPC on drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of response plans.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, CEG site team, Contractors, Suppliers, and regulatory agencies to foster a strong safety culture of teamwork, a shared value safety culture, and the alignment of safety goals.

Continuous Improvement

  • Regularly review and analyze site safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Work with the Contractor Safety team and CEG site team to implement changes to enhance safety performance and minimize risks.

Qualifications

  • Current, legal, and unrestricted ability to work in the United States
  • Possess one or more of the following: Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certified Safety Professional (CSP) OSHA 30 credentials required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proven experience in safety management, preferably in renewable energy or construction projects.
  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations, codes, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying potential hazards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and engage project teams.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.
  • Able to work closely and effectively with other site team personnel and project managers.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.

Experience & Education

  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • 5 years of EH&S experience onsite

Pay: $45.00 - $60.00 per hour
