POSITION PURPOSE:
The ML STEM Camp Intern supports rising 5th-8th-grade English Language Development (ELD) students during a hands-on STEM camp by assisting with language development and facilitating participation in inquiry-based STEM and engineering activities. The intern helps create an engaging, supportive learning environment where multilingual learners can build STEM understanding while strengthening academic language skills.

- Ability to support language development through modeling, questioning, and scaffolding.
- Classroom support skills, including assisting with group work and hands-on activities.
- Organizational and time-management skills.

- Ability to work effectively with diverse learners, particularly multilingual students.
- Ability to facilitate student engagement in STEM challenges and collaborative projects.
- Ability to follow teacher direction while also taking initiative when assisting students.
- Ability to maintain a positive, supportive learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications -
- Interest in education, STEM fields, or working with multilingual learners.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or camp setting (preferred but not required).
- Availability to work the full camp schedule, including one planning day and four days with students.
- Reliable and responsible with the ability to commit to 8 hours per day during the camp period.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist teachers in facilitating hands-on STEM activities and engineering challenges.
- Support ELD students by encouraging language development and the use of academic vocabulary during activities.
- Help students collaborate in small groups and participate actively in inquiry-based learning tasks.
- Provide guidance and encouragement while students explore STEM concepts and problem-solving strategies.
- Assist with preparing, organizing, and distributing materials needed for activities.
- Participate in a planning day with teachers to understand camp activities, expectations, and student needs.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Support general camp operations as needed, including setup and cleanup of materials and spaces.
