We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Machine Shop Helper to support our manufacturing operations. This role involves assisting with machining, fabrication, and assembly processes in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, basic math skills, and familiarity with various tools and equipment used in precision manufacturing. This position offers opportunities for growth and skill development within the machine shop setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines such as lathes and milling machines
- Support machining processes including CNC programming, CAM programming, and manual machining tasks
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T specifications, and technical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication
- Use hand tools, power tools, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments for quality control
- Operate fabrication equipment including press brake machines and welding tools such as MIG welding
- Support fabrication and assembly of components using welding, fabrication techniques, and tooling
- Maintain a clean and organized work area adhering to safety standards
- Assist with warehouse tasks including material handling using forklifts when qualified
- Follow lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste
Experience
- Prior experience in manufacturing or machine shop environment preferred but not required
- Knowledge of blueprint reading, GD&T, CNC programming (including CNC lathe and CNC milling), and SolidWorks is a plus
- Hands-on experience with welding (MIG), fabrication, assembly, and use of hand/power tools is desirable
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), tooling setup, quality control procedures, and precision measurement instruments such as micrometers is advantageous
- Basic math skills necessary for measurements and calculations related to machining processes
- Warehouse experience or forklift certification is beneficial but not mandatory
