What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Farm Ranch position at 3 B Farms?
The General Ranch Hand will primarily be required to operate equipment for planting/seeding, fertilizing and harvesting of small grains, sugar beets, corn and edible beans. Worker will be required to operate farm equipment such as a tractors, combines, swather, rollers, fertilizer spreader, sprayers, grain trucks, augers and trucks (onsite only). Worker will be required to load and unload grain trucks/carts, must be mechanically inclined in order to perform light maintenance and repairs on equipment, tractors and trucks; pay close attention to the details and keep accurate records. Must also be willing to assist in other areas of the farm as needed; such as picking rocks, running parts, tearing down and/or minimal repairing of existing fence lines; grounds maintenance and facility cleaning and maintenance. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs, and must be willing to work 12 hour days during harvest., irrigating and haying season. The job entails working with farm machinery, outdoors in all types of weather (extreme heat, wind, dust, rain) and occasional exposure to poisonous snakes and predators. Irrigation required for hand lines must be able to connect pipes, check alignments, attach lines to water supply, turn on pumps and valves, disassemble and carry pipe, lift gates and shovel and pack dirt to direct water flow for flood irrigation. Extensive walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting and long hours sitting and operating farm equipment is required. A minimum of 3 months of experience with the harvesting of crops, equipment maintenance, and all other tasks shown above is required for this position. Driving is a requirement with willingness to obtain a drivers license. The position will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of commercial cow calf operation. Duties related to the production of livestock will include the following: check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, night calving and assisting in delivery of calves;, apply or administer medications/vaccines, mix feed/additives and feed/water livestock when the cattle are not out to pasture; place mineral blocks; drive equipment to haul/distribute feed/water; load/unload trucks, herd livestock; confine livestock in stalls; clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds; dock, castrate, brand, clip/tag and clamp livestock. Work week is 50 hours/week average with an increase during calving & haying and harvest. Increased wage and /or bonus may be possible depending on experience.
